ALL US Tech companies are subject to the #CloudAct, i.e. the US govt can commandeer all & any data collected by any US company anywhere in the world. But Starmer knows this, so his payback must be considerable!!

Afgelopen week kwam ik een diagram tegen over voor hoeveel procent een EU land in de problemen zou komen als de VS digitale dienstverlening zou blokkeren.
Daarbij kwam uiteraard NL er bekaaid af (richting of boven 90%) en scoorde Bulgarije erg goed (rond de 55%).

Ik kan het alleen niet meer terug vinden...

• Simply because I can't use anything subject to #CloudAct (i.e. #amazon #S3 / #Glacier) and want something uniformly that can do "pull backups" without anything on the machines that I want/need to backup / restore.

  • Plus not being chained to a #centralized. #SingleVendot / #SingleProvider solution is kinda important.

I mean, without #GDPR, #BDSG (if not even stricter rules and a moody US Government) I'd be more inclined just to pay for Tarsnap et. al. cuz @cperciva made a really good service with it...

Deshalb: föderierte, oder verteilte Systeme einsetzen, wie z.B. #DeltaChat, #XMPP, #Matrix, oder #Briar. Das ist derzeit der beste Schutz gegen Massenüberwachung.

Seit einem Jahr unterzeichnet Trump grosszügig neue «Executive Orders», mit denen er sich und anderen jederzeit unangekündigt neue Rechte zuweisen kann. Übrigens können solche Präsidialverfügungen auch geheim ausgestellt werden.

➡️ Auch hier gilt: Der Fokus auf den #CloudAct ist angesichts der Möglichkeit, dass der US-Präsident von heute auf Morgen seine Meinung und die Gesetzeslage ändert, sehr kurzfristig gedacht.

Funnily the same providers already disqualified themselves due to being subject to #CloudAct so that's not a problem for me either.
