@ambiguous_yelp I didn't say that. I just said that it makes no difference to me whether it's #DeltaChat or SimpleX, and then I choose the tool that I find more appealing and that I like better.
Afaict simplex has all the same privacy and anonymity benefits as deltachat, and it might even have more features: simplex has calls, live-text, file transfer, voice messages, out of the box tor integration with client settings and onion address support, tag-sorting for chats, GUI theme customization and export including custom photo backgrounds.
Given that both simplex and deltachat have very similar threat models and architecture its difficult to see why anyone would choose to use deltachat over simplex when simplex has quantum resistance and deltachat does not

I'm glad to hear that I will have to take a closer look. Classical encryption is still a deal breaker though because of Store Now Decrypt Later attacks, SimpleX uses the double ratchet algorithm developed by signal, maybe DeltaChat could too idk if that's helpful.

@delta Reminds me of SimpleX, if you can add quantum-resistant encryption and easy multi profile management and throwaway (incognito) profiles like simplex then the privacy and anonymity features would probably be on par and I'd consider switching to get away from the far right dev team.

Das Fehlen eines Webclients für #DeltaChat ist ein echtes Manko. Ich darf auf dem Arbeits-Notebook keine beliebige Software installieren und Nachrichten nur über die Smartphone-Tastatur zu beantworten ist nicht so richtig praktikabel. Selbes Problem bei #Signal

Però Delta Chat té millor aplicació, de llarg, tant per #iOS com per #Android i també per l'escriptori dels diferents sistemes operatius.

So i use 3 relays for @delta i do wait their official docker image to spin one myself on my VPS.

@mialikescoffee Intern wird für jedes Relay ein ganz normales Passwort verwendet. Du hast zwei Möglichkeiten, wenn Du mit deinem bestehenden Konto auf ein neues Handy umziehen möchtest.
Entweder Du richtest das neue Telefon als "Zweitgerät" ein dann brauchst Du das alte Handy.
Oder Du nimmst eine Backupdatei.
Die Backup-Datei kannst Du in den Chat-Einstellungen (zumindest bei Android) erstellen. Ich würde Dir empfehlen hin und wieder ein Backup zu erstellen, da sind dann auch alle Chats etc. enthalten.
Wichtig wäre es noch zu den Backups, die Backup Datei ist nicht verschlüsselt (Stand jetzt, aktuelle #DeltaChat Version). Du solltest diese Datei also sicher aufbewahren.
Ich habe die Backup-Datei bei mir auf dem NAS z.B. in einem Passwortgeschützen Archiv-File noch mal abgesichert.
Vielleicht wird das bei @delta ja mal geändert, dass das Bsckup Archiv mit einem Passwort verschlüsselt wird ☺️
Right after the #Signal outage yesterday, I took a closer look at #deltachat.
While I knew that it uses e-mail protocols like SMTP and IMAP under the hood, I always thought you have to enter the credentials of your e-mail account simply because DeltaChat is using that account to transfer messages.
But to my surprise, you can just create a profile on a chatmail relay, even without providing a password at all. While I have no idea how this works, I assume that it generates a key pair on your local device. But how is this connected to my profile name? Is a profile name unique? When I uninstall the app is my profile lost?
@chris I have no experience with hubzilla, but if there are libraries to use it with python etc. someone could create or port the bridge I did to it or add support for hubzilla to it
my #mastodon #bot actually also works with #friendica accounts, if #hubzilla can be used with mastodon clients chances are high the bot will work with a hubzilla account
