So I guess thanks to #openscad, #inkscape and my #3dprinter....now only like a bunch more to go!

Crap, have to design and print a custom enclosure now... I start to understand why a clean desk policy is saving you time. In a drawer I had never seen those tags 🤣
Well, time to start #openscad I guess!
Ein neues 3D-Modell, “Magnetic Outlet Hose Holder For Tumble Dryers”, wurde gerade veröffentlicht!
@suetanvil as a proud #OpenSCAD user, I find it funny, when big commercial CAD software makes such a big deal out of their new revolutionary parametric design capabilities

Also creating this curved parametric telephone stand in #OpenSCAD. I got the idea from a model I found on Printables but I wanted more control over the design.

CrystalizedFloats is coded in #Openscad & #HydraVideoSynth which uses Transparency (23rd Prompt of Genuary2026) in many ways

if you work with #openSCAD on the mac... get the nightly build from 2026(!) instead of 2021(!) here:
https://openscad.org/downloads.html#snapshots
you will experience *much* faster rendering on your mac.

Maybe I used the wrong search terms or didn't scroll the search results for too long, but I didn't find any good D-shaft knobs on Printables/Thingiverse. Either the geometry of the shaft part was all wrong and non-compliant, or the knob was pointing in the wrong direction, or I didn't like the shape for some other reason.
Since I had to model anyway, I just made a replica of the original thing I was trying to replace in #OpenSCAD. It's based on pictures of the original knob, so it's not perfect, but close enough.

I've been busy making again...

CAD-as-code (and maybe CAD people in general) people, newbie question for you:
Where do you typically put the origin of simple parts such that will be combined into larger assemblies?
Geometric centre? Pick a corner and grow everything in positive x, y, z? Something else?
I ask because the centre seems to me like the most general approach, but then you're having to constantly be moving parts around, typically by doing a lot of floating point division (which is terribly imprecise), like halving dimensions all the time to keep them centred. And then when centred, you have to shuffle them again by a bunch of half-as-muches to build them into assemblies.
But OTOH, having the origin off in some random corner seems somewhat pyrrhic also.
Thoughts? Feelings? Comments?
Has someone used some #3DPrinting bricks/walling/interlocking planks of some description to make a substantial shed/storage unit using a standard 200mm printer? Not looking for google answers please - looking for someone who's done :-)
FYI I Have my own @SnapCloud -> #OpenSCAD x4 scale LEGO type bricks but wondering if there is anything better / uses less plastic
Project overview: Stackable Playing Cards and parametric Slick Box!
The base card and the parametric box were designed on @FreeCAD using a spreadsheet for dynamic parameters. Then, I used #OpenSCAD with a couple bash scripts to render all cards from a regular deck ☺️ check the video for more details!
