three years of using #linux and only around now i hear first of @chimera
looks like a nice project, wanna try it for a bit or maybe longer
they use llvm(clang)+musl+mimalloc (idk what is mimalloc yet) like in alpine instead of gcc+glibc in standard distros or gcc+musl in void
also they adapt #freebsd coreutils instead of using gnu coreutils, uutils or busybox or toybox
they have their own package build system and use #apk (alpine package manager) v3, that is not yet used in the alpine itself. it's centered around the world file, which list packages and rules that should be installed on system (kinda like nixos and maybe gentoo but a bit more traditional)
the init system of them is #dinit, a new one not yet used in big distros, only artix comes to mind as having an option to use it (i actually used it for a bit). it's more systemd-like than void's runit having user services as first class citizens and dependency-based structure, but it's much faster and less bloated than systemd and i yet to learn how easy or hard it is compared to systemd and runit
podman and distrobox are packaged, so i won't have any issues running all my software. but #zenbrowser is not, so it's time to compile it again (i should have counted how many times have i compiled it already lol). apparently the source tarball in releases uses firefox branding (bins, icons, dirs) for some reason and i won't try to change that this time, because my previous attempts resulted in broken system interactions untill i simlinked "ln -s zen-browser /bin/firefox". that's probably a problem with zen-browser itself rather than the way i package it. the other choices are to use it from distrobox (which runs the point for me) or compiling by official instructions clone git repo, patch firefox, compile) which takes more work than just downloading and compiling the source tarball from #zen releases and compiling it with exinting firefox recipes
maybe i will make some effort to learn how to fix all the branding issues and submit it to chimera user packages, who knows. or to void or freebsd packages if i choose to daily drive them after trying chimera, who knows
I think Chimera Linux is an intriguing mix of components: Linux kernel, FreeBSD userland, apk package manager, (non-systemd) dinit. I checked it out briefly last year. Now I want to take a second, closer look.
Installed Chimera Linux with Root-on-ZFS with ZFS native encryption and ZFSBootMenu as bootloader on a VM. Time to explore!

З активної діяльності я займаюся тим що стримлю на :neobread_gamer: Twitch та сподіваюся колись зможу зібрати народ з твіча та ми проведемо етер на :peertube: peertube.in.ua
на якому будемо переглядати якісь серіали, фільми тощо...
На твічі я займаюся тим що балакаю з людьми на різні теми та граюся у грульки які мені подарували або які мені особисто цікаві :blobbee_gamer:
Не маю якоїсь технічної освіти... можна сказати що я потрошку десь розбираюся, але немає чогось у чому я б повноцінно шарив та був у цьому обізнаний :cirno_comfy:
Намагаюся просувати людям в інтернеті використання вільного програмного забезпечення та сам його використовую :yellowPray: Сиджу у DeltaChat/ArcaneChat, Stoat, mbin :cirno_chill:

Я б хотів би аби більше людей знали та використовували інші ініціалізатори системи :cirno_love:
Особисто для мене використання dinit розв'язало проблему з кривим запуском системи, пришвидшило її завантаження ну й зменшило використання оперативно пам'яті, бо SystemD сам по собі є потужним монолітним інструментом "все в одному" окрім ініціалізатора системи :neocat_systemd:

Мені не подобаються люди що захищають російську в Україні тож в питаннях мови я дуже радикальна людина. Я не маю бажання спілкуватися з вами якщо ви говорите що російська мова вашого дому або у вас в профілі стоїть що ви знаєте "ru" :neoraccoon_angry: Також мені не подобаються люди що грають у продукти такої студії як hoyoverse. Ви граєте в ігри від людей що платять руснявим банкам аби росіяни могли донатити у їхню гру через русняві сервіси такі як "ТінькофПей", "Мир"... це огидно... також розробники не проти потримати прапор совка

Завдяки #dinit на моєму YellowArtixPC в черговий раз не сталося некоректного першого запуску після вимкнення кампутера✌️
Я знаю що проблема у моєму старому залізі але все ж dinit знову врятував мій день та побачив що щось не так(все це розв'язується перезапуском компа)😁
SystemD до речі завжди мені запускав систему з купою багів та лагів й інколи доводилося потім щось фіксити...😕 Неприємно...😵💫
Сьогодні успішно перевів свій #ArtixLinux з #OpenRC на #dinit🤩 Й я прям відчув як же швидко запускається моя система~

I'm very surprised about today's Debian GNU/Hurd release, Now it has working amd64, USB Drivers, Optical drive drivers and so on. I gave it a shot today and ran it with qemu.
Created my user, Installed #dinit, #s6 netwoking, s6-dns, #execline and #tipidee from git repos to have a demo http server.
The process was smooth and here's the result:
So, from my notes:
#voidlinux: symlink a service's name from /etc/sv/ to /var/service to enable a service then sv up & down will become available for that service.
#chimeralinux: dinitctl, kinda like systemctl
#devuan: update-rc.d <service> default to get it on the runlevels, then enable/disable to do fun things. Only do update-rc.d remove when the package is removed from the system.. Gotcha
