I just initiated a page on my blog to share (and backup) a guide to my own Archlinux :archlinux: desktop configuration, based on @swaywm : https://memcat.eu/2026/archlinux-setup
Arch Linux has released its updated February installation ISO, bringing a new kernel, refreshed system libraries, desktop updates, and security fixes.

I've been thinking about this now, but I'm probably the only 23 year old in the whole world, who uses Arch and still has a freaking optical disc drive right on their chassis, connected to my PSU & one of my motherboard's SATA ports.
I dunno. I've never put any disc in it since June of last year but I'm just not used to not having it. I've seen computers having floppy disk drives, I've seen (and unintentionally ruined) floppies as a kid...
BTW: i use #Archlinux. 🥳
The numbers I got from Cyberpunk 2077 built-in benchmark.
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 12 GB (limited to 150 W)
RAM: 40 GB
Game was on a SATA SSD. I still have an optical disc drive connected to a sata port :p
Settings were set to Low, disabled AMD FSR. No framegen either. Res was 1366x768 Borderless.
Alright. The kernel version comparison is complete.
Kernels were the default one, regular cachyos kernel & cachyos-bore kernel. CPU's AMD Ryzen 5 5600.
(copied from my twitch panel)
CPU voltage: Auto
Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO): Manual
PPT: 91 W
TDC: 74 A
EDC: 101 A
PBO Scalar: 1x
Curve Optimizer (CO): -30 on all cores
Boost Frequency Offset/Boost Clock Override/FMax Boost: +200 MHz
Default kernel was alright. It works, no surprise there. Used it for 3 years no problem.
Now I'm booted to Linux 6.18.8-3-cachyos to try doing the same stuff. No sched-ext scheduler enabled like the default kernel.
Gonna run Cinebench R23 both multicore & single core, do 4 cp2077 benchmarks, run schbench & cachyos-benchmarker, then boot back to bore kernel & do the same thing then I'll think of what to do next.
I'mma be quiet for a bit
Got the scores now. Kernel's Linux 6.18.7-arch1-1, CPU's AMD Ryzen 5 5600, and no sched-ext schedulers enabled. Steam, nvtop, btop, and scx-manager running in the background
10873 pts multicore & 1510 pts singlecore. MP ratio is 7.20x
I also got how to calculate for MP ratio. Basically divide the multicore score to single core score, but still, higher points on both multi & single is better.
1534 pts for scx_tickless -f 5000 -s 1000. 2 points above the number 1 cpu ! which was the 11th gen intel core i7-1165g7
Alright I have something interesting to try. Boot the default kernel that ships with Arch Linux and then do a run of Cinebench R23, both multicore & single core run. using the same proton version, having the same things running in the background, and no sched-ext schedulers running.
Rebooting now
BTW I Use #Archlinux.
Arcade conversion to Linux progress: I had my entire setup on an external hard drive and kept everything for the arcade on it, made it fully portable so I could mount as any drive letter. I copied the data off, formatted ext4 and copied everything back on.
Started updating the Attract Mode paths for thumbnails and movies to match the new ext4 file system setup. Hit the button accidentally to start a game and it.... unexpectedly booted up? Turns out the paths still match and even though I never installed wine, Windows Retroarch was running Doom 32x. I was... quite confused that this functioned at all.
That's fine for now, but I intend on moving everything possible to local native Linux versions of the emulators I use except in cases where I cannot like TeknoParrot. So far, so good. Just gotta be very careful about case-sensitivity on ext4.
A lot more work to do including some theme filename updates to fix some missing images.
Alright, after almost 3 hours of switching to every sched-ext schedulers and running Cinebench R23 multicore benchmark every time, here's the multicore scores I got. (tldr there's not much difference)
My CPU's Ryzen 5 5600, rocking the Linux 6.18.8-1-cachyos-bore kernel and proton version I used is proton-cachyos-10.0-20260127-slr-x86_64_v3. I didn't find a native Cinebench R23 build for linux or I'm prolly just blind & didn't see it.
#GarudaLinux works so well on my 10th-gen laptop, I thought surely it won’t be able to work on my old 2014 iMac, it’s probably too old.
Garuda Linux: Hold my beer. And don’t call me Shirley.
After the debacle that was Manjaro a few years ago, Garuda has restored my faith in Arch distros.
