"Celebrate National Seed Swap Day with the Portland River Valley Garden Club on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Waverly Center, 7 Waverly Ave, Portland, Connecticut.

"Thanks to our sponsors - Burpee Seeds, Harts Seeds, NE Seed, MI Gardener and Baker Creek Seeds - we have a large selection of seeds available for you to take and swap. You can also bring labeled seeds saved from your garden or unopened seed packets from last year.

"Club members will be offering demos on making #SeedBombs, #WinterSowing and growing #microgreens. Plant #basil or #chive seeds to take home. Visit #RiverBendBookshop’s pop-up garden-themed #BookFair and learn about the Portland Library’s #SeedLibrary. Delicious comfort food and refreshments will be available.

Smoking good Khmer BBQ street food

When you want to buy street food in Asia, you will not lack choices.

Like chicken, quail, sausage, pork, pineapple from this happy chef.

Trick is to follow a local chef and her fav street food joint. Or – the joint with the longest queue.

And your nose, of course.

You can feed yourself well and have left overs for lunch the next day for 5 USD. Or take away for when to visit Khmer friends for drinks and talks, a meal for a large group or family is around 10 USD.

Who says things need to be complicated when produce has high quality?

Tiger shrimps, squids and veggies on the BBQ, freshly steamed local rice and one of M’me Khmer chefs own, home made dipping sauces.

And a beer.

That is great eating and comfort food and drinks. A great Saturday in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

For seafood lovers
Cambodia is a great country for seafood lovers. Or, I think the technical term is aquatic based protein.

In a typical, classical Khmer diet around 60 percent of the protein are shellfish and crayfish from river, lake or sea. All important part of Cambodias geography. Ad some fresh vegetables, and home made dipping sauces mixing salt, sweet, spicy, and umami flavours.

And flavourful steamed Khmer rice.

The Forbes Magazine recently advised people loving good food and unique experiences to travel to Cambodia. For the special cuisine with great flavours and no long queues.

Low-budget photography featuring a large red poppy blossom. Dandelion seeds on their parachutes, already ripe, still hanging on their mother plant, a white and pink striped geranium blossom, and a faded one with pink petals and rich pink veins were placed in the it. The pistils are pink, the stamens are brown and covered with light yellow pollen.

A lavender chive blossom was placed in a large red poppy flower. The poppy blossom rests on a wet piece of black glass, which distorts the blossoms in some places and reflects them very clearly in others.

In the upper left corner of the picture you can see a small part of a pink geranium petal.

Dear Friends of blackbirds,
This morning a #blackbird landed on the neighbors roof but was not singing. :ablobcatpopcorn: I tried to encourage some morning cheer, by whistling in my friendliest tones of encouragement. 📯
I am not a blackbird but I dunz my best. The bird started songing but then my answer was not welcoming enough. :ablobcatcoffee: She #flew off to sing in a friendly tree. Was it something I #whistled? No doubt.

Meanwhile the #fox has decided she owns the garden and left a territorial marker. Yuk! So I covered it with soil... And planted a common #chive and Thai sage.
