I quickly got a reply. Turns out many years ago they had a substandard batch of neoprene that failed after a number of years. Op/tech have a lifetime guarantee on all their kit and they are going to are going to send me a free replacement from the US to the UK. Quality customer service! Thanks very much to Op/tech! If you are after a good quality camera strap or other camera accessories then give Op/tech a look optechusa.com/ 3/3

1 YEAR AGO FLASHBACK: Mining in the Mountains. The giant gear wheel at the miners' village at Glendalough.

A dramatic, low-angle shot looking through the open triangular frame of a massive, rusted iron gear. The gear's serrated "teeth" curve across the top of the frame like a dark archway. Through this metallic window, a soft-focus valley stretches into the distance under an overcast, moody sky. The hills are covered in muted browns and oranges, suggesting a winter or autumn palette. The metal in the foreground is heavily textured with dark rust and patches of pale green lichen.

In late November 2025, I debuted my new book - "Photo-illustration" - a photo/art book that combines my photography with the illustration art of Canadian comic book artists.

It can be purchased here with international shipping.

In these days of doom and gloom, a small bright spot. I am sorting all my kit as I would like to get back into taking pics again, film and digital. I am not a good photographer but I enjoy it. Anyway.. opened my film camera bag to find that the Op/tech pro camera strap, which has a thick neoprene padded section around the neck section, had started to crumble in to grainy rubber sand. I checked my other straps that are the same design and only one was falling apart... 🧵1/3

A translucent plastic 5L Really Useful Box rectangular plastic box contains a black Op/tech neoprene padded camera neck strap. The strap is aligned along the vertical long axis of the box from top to bottom. It comprises a section of 1/4" / 6.35mm thick neoprene foam rubber, a little over 1ft / 300mm long with a fabric skin on the inner and outer faces. On the back face, to the right an elasticated fabric band is stitched across its width in a few positions to allow the neck strap to stretch up to a point. On the elasticated strip, in the centre, the Op/tech logo is printed in white. At the ends of the strap are a male and female plastic clip buckles of the type you find on rucksack straps.
The neoprene foam along the centre of the top edge of the strap, between the two fabric skins has started to crumble and disintegrate. Changing into granular rubber grains like sand. Tiny grains of the rubber sand can be seen in the bottom of the box. There is a colour change from the normal black of the neoprene to a reddish black where the neoprene is falling apart (this isn't visible to the naked eye in daylight).

I believe this is Mount Logan, viewed from the Three Mile Creek trail in Pike National Forest, #Colorado. August, 2024. #MountainMonday #Landscape #Photography

Aspens, conifers, low willows are densely packed into the sub-alpine area in the foreground. A large, rounded, bare peak juts up toward the blue sky in the background.

#PhotoOfTheDay is of a stencil we made by hand for a fun project to create a pair of banners a couple of years ago. My kid did most of the work but at this stage I was the one painstakingly cutting out the cardboard stencil with an Xacto knife.

A traditional old Norse representation of a raven is being recreated by hand, and at this stage is a paper designed being cut out in the form of a cardboard stencil.

Monochrome Monday
Taken with my cica 2015 Nikon Coolpix P310 compact camera.
Straight from camera, no editing, no nothing.

A bare tree silhouette stands against a cloudy sky, overlooking a scenic landscape with rolling hills and distant fields. The image is in black and white, adding to its stark contrast. A few houses are visible in the foreground, along with power lines.
