Once again #KDE tries to get rid of minority distributions. This time by replacing SDDM with PLM (plasma login manager). PLM depends on systemd.
So sooner or later no KDE for #alpineLinux, #FreeBSD, #Gentoo, #NetBSD, #OpenBSD, #Slackware, #VoidLinux, etc.
For #BLFS it is no problem as BLFS itself recently discontinued its non-systemd version.

Vor einigen Tagen wurden LFS 12.3 und BLFS 12.3 freigegeben. Sowohl LFS als auch BLFS werden in je zwei Varianten – mit und ohne systemd – angeboten.

Display/Window Managers & Desktop Environments
I'm looking at the #BLFS book and I see that there is the X server #Xorg , various display and window managers plus the more well known desktop environments like #KDE.
The book hints that some of these WM/DMs might be included in things like KDE but I can't seem to figure out which packages I need before following the KDE instructions.

I know it's been done before but I decided to make a simple set of package management tools for my #LFS / #BLFS build. I'm just calling it Pkgtools even though I think #Slackware calls theirs that too (I guess I'm open to suggestions.
They're just simple bash scripts and will end up being a #Fakeroot solution backed by an #SQLite database but I'm excited about the whole process
Installing #LFS ( #Linux From Scratch) 12.1 has been a blast and a true learning experience. I made it part of the way into #BLFS before deciding to start completely over to attempt implementation of pkgtools from #Slackware.

Have several libraries that are on my list for updating build scripts. It's kind of like #BLFS but cross-platform. Would be curious if anyone else builds their #FLOSS libraries and programs from scratch and if anyone would like to compare notes on doing so. The code I work with seldom compiles out of the box without patches. Would be nice to share steps and patches with others similar to what the BLFS project does. #OpenSource #FOSS #MinGW #C #FreeSoftware

It's but a small part of the puzzle, and is neither complicated (beyond reading) nor is it intense.
Takes about a day to build start-to-fin if you wanna.
But, to truly get the experience, you will need to continue building with a #BLFS systems as well.
warning: When you get to build firefox, you will understand why everyone develops with chromium.
