Protip:
Never try to even #remotely #code anything for #tensorflow

It. is. hell.
(Either it crashes, or the #dependencies want #python 3.10 as the maintainers are too lalalalalla to like update anything, or too lazy and want to wait till "worth" it.

“they don't have the right chipset to run what Windows wants for security”

Really? I heard #Microsoft does this to be able to run its #AI on people's #computers. The idea is, make sure people have the necessary resources to be #tracked.

There was a great #interview/#discussion about privacy, including this #topic. It was between a #woman and a #man, done #remotely. The man was the one who taught the woman about the importance of #privacy, and in that interview they were discussing various topics in general. IIRC, the man's name was #Megan or so. 🤔 If anyone knows the #video and has the #link, please #share it, I need it. :tony_smiling:

@mrmasterkeyboard @0xF21D @cesarpose for individiuals who do stuff on the side and who definitely don't make ends meet with #FLOSS I don't assume malice or incompetence unless proven otherwise.

  • If this were like #TeamViewer or #AnyDesk who charge triple digits per seat and year I'd not accept that tho!

Granted #Dayon is AFAICT the only competitive offering if #MeshCentral, #RustDesk & #Remotely are too overkill and that works on the convenient "Reverse-Server" model where one needs to only configure the network on the Assistant end, not on the end of the user seeking help.

  • Which is espechally desired for systems that one hasn't onboarded or ain't intended to get onboarded as a matter of principle (i.e. individual clients' desktops)...

How to know you're a true - you work 💯 while never using your webcam, you rarely the house, & when the excuse to leave the house comes up twice on a night, but you're able to , you immediately feel a sense of relief and when you do so. Much like Kevin McAllister, I love being .

#JournalEverything Just had a call from the #physio, they have some cancellations so my appointment has been brought forward from 1610 to 1500. Hopefully on the way to getting these creaky knees sorted out. They are better today of course than they were on Monday when I could only hobble around after a too-long walk around #Ironbridge on Sunday. I usually go into the office on Tuesdays - by #ebike and #train but I really wasn't up to it this week so I worked from home all two and a half days (I'm #PartTime) and lucky I can work #remotely.

finally got #minio to work!! now I 'have' an S3-compatible object storage!!!

this allows me to use the #remotely-save plugin in #obsidian to sync notes without worrying about space limits and monthly operation limits

the funniest thing is that I tried to get minio to work a few months ago, but I was literally illiterate and didn't know how to read documentation, because it was all written there!!!

Remotely controlled Vehicles over Starlink.

What if you want to control a vehicle that’s hundreds of kilometers away, or even on the other side of the planet? Cellular is an option, but is obviously limited by available infrastructure — good luck getting a cell signal in the middle of the ocean.

Modern remote control (RC) radios are capable of incredible range, but they’re still only made for line-of-sight use. But what if you could beam your commands down from space?

That’s what [Thingify] was looking to test when they put together an experimental RC boat using a Starlink Mini for communications. Physically, there was no question it would work on the boat. After all, it was small, light and power-efficient enough.

The downside? Starlink is a fairly expensive proposition; you’d need to have a pretty specific mission in mind to justify the cost. The Mini receiver currently costs $599 USD (though it occasionally goes on sale), and you’ll need at least a $50 per month plan to go with it. While this puts it out of the price range for recreational RC, [Thingify] notes that it’s not a bad deal if you’re looking to explore uncharted territory.[ImageSource: Thingify]

But would the network connection be up to the task of controlling the vehicle in real-time?

During early ground testing, the Mini version of the Starlink receiver worked very well. Despite being roughly 1/4 the size of its predecessor, the smaller unit met or exceeded its performance during benchmarks on bandwidth, latency and signal strength. As expected, it also drew far less power: the Mini’s power consumption peaked at around 33 watts, compared to the monstrous 180 W for the larger receiver.

On the water, there was even more good news. The bandwidth was more than enough to run a high-resolution video feedback to the command center. At the same time, the boat moved autonomously between waypoints, and when [Thingify] switched over to manual control, the latency was low enough not to be a problem. “We wouldn’t recommend manually piloting a high-speed aircraft over Starlink, but for a boat that’s cruising along at 4 km/h, the lag didn’t even come into play.”
