People on Facebook and twitter laughed at me. I was extremely active, in my career and going to school (because I could tell the easy mortgage days we’re coming to an end in 2004, I was in funding instead of processing at that point, but still . . .)
It took me more than half a year to heal enough to get out of bed and go back to work because I kept trying to push through because I didn’t know I had mono until my PCP sent me to psychiatry because they insisted it was mental illness. After 30 minutes he knew it was mono and sent me to the lab. Not mental illness.
Anyway, everything was great. I was still getting some PEM at the end of my work week but I thought that was just because I was in my 30s. I thought it was normal to feel hung over on Saturday mornings even if I just went home on Friday night and went to bed after work. I thought that was just what being mid 30 was about.
Then I was in a car accident in 2012 that wrecked some discs in my neck and I woke up feeling like I had mono all over again. And it has never gone away. Ever.
