Peonies

They bloomed back in June, but I only just developed the roll.
For me, peonies have always meant one thing: my birthday. In Ukraine, my great-grandmother used to show up on the morning of my birthday in May with an armful of them - fragrant, slightly overblown, always a little chaotic. Like birthdays should be.
So when I moved into my own house in Minnesota, I knew there had to be peonies.
One thing I didn’t account for?
Minnesota is farther north.
So now my birthday bouquet arrives a little bit late :)
