Another day, another beautiful winter sunset, with a helping hand from the lens glare of the phone camera lens.
Pictures from the garden today, looking out over the Plateau du Cézallier, with the Sancy range to the far right of frame, and still desperately snowless. The provisional 15-day forecast at the moment indicates likely snow for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. We shall see!

Postally used on 29 September 1921 with double circle Worksop cancellation on brown three halfpence stamp and sent to Miss R. Carter, Kippences, West Lyss, Hampshire.

Very good condition, with slight corner bumps.

Yesterday this was further down the hill: MORE oaks giving up and shutting down to conserve energy.

It's supposed to finally rain today (so far all the thunderstorms have missed us - AGAIN)

This is the worst drought I've ever seen - 3 months w only 3 days of rain, 2 of which were just drizzle. The river bed is mostly stones, the soil powder dry.

These little oaklings, I found sprouting in my garden. I wonder how they got there, because there isn't an oak tree nearby. I decided to pot them in their own pots, maybe I can plant an oak somewhere, in time! 😃

Anyone have any leads on a retailer of acorn flour in Canada? Like, we have so many oak trees, and I know it was a traditional ingredient for people here. It seems kinda bonkers that the only non-American retailer that I can find is Turkish.

Being an oldish codger myself, I felt sympathy for this rather decrepit hollow oak tree that I encountered when wandering through the local woods this morning.
All that unseasonal greenery comes courtesy of a row of holly trees, including an old one growing to the left of the oak and seeming to partially prop it up.

2/2🧵 The #MortonArboretum is located in #Lisle #Illinois, a far suburb of #Chicago. It was established in 1922 by Mr. Joy Morton, the founder of the #MortonSalt company. Morton's father was J. Sterling Morton, who founded #ArborDay in 1872.

The #Arboretum is comprised of over 1,700 acres of land. All of the trees and plants are carefully chosen and tended by expert staff.

With my heel spurs and arthritis, hiking is nearly impossible, so this was a lovely way to enjoy the woodlands and the many colors of the season.

1/2🧵 This past Friday afternoon was spent driving through one of several long routes in the #MortonArboretum in #Lisle, #Illinois. The fall colors and scenic tree varieties along the nine-mile route were beautiful, and my camera phone could not do them justice.

The two-head #sculpture is "Of The Earth" by artist #OlgaZiemska. The heads were "created from reclaimed and pruned tree branches and other natural materials gathered from various locations throughout the Arboretum’s 1,700 acres.“
