Il y a 20 ans je venais de recevoir mon tout premier #Mac, un #iMac #G5 et je suivais les #JO depuis mon Mac grâce à #EyeTV, JO qui étais à #Turin. et 20 ans plus tard ils sont de nouveaux en #Italie et je les suis de nouveau depuis mon Mac mais aussi depuis mon iPhone.

The computers they’re attached to are getting up there in age, though, and although these displays are still functional it isn’t quite as straightforward to use them outside of their Apple-approved use. <a href="https://davidigreen.com/blog/transforming-a-2014-5k-imac-into-an-external-monitor" target="_blank">[David] demonstrates one way of getting this done by turning a 5k iMac into an external monitor.</a></p>
<p>The first attempt at getting a usable monitor from the old iMac was something called a Luna Display, but this didn’t have a satisfying latency. Instead, [David] turned to replacing the LCD driver board with a model called the R1811. This one had a number of problems including uneven backlighting, so he tried a second, less expensive board called the T18. This one only has 8-bit color instead of the 10-bit supported by the R1811 but [David] couldn’t personally tell the difference, and since it solved the other issues with the R1811 he went with this one. The computer museum in my garage has a new entry. Sadly, my mid-2010 iMac 27" had a hard disk failure. I was keeping this one alive to run Photoshop and Quickbooks, because I refuse to move to subscription software when these old versions do everything I need. It would have been nice it it had hung on for 6 more months and then we could have retired together. Fortunately I have an old 2013 Power Book that can get me through the final months.

My computer museum starts with an original IBM PC with no hard drive, which was my first work computer, and my Commodore 64 which was my first personal computer. Then a Mac 128 from 1984 and then a bunch of other Macs spanning the last 42 years.

Been spending the past couple of days trying to set up linux on my 2015 iMac and remembering all of the frustrations around setting up linux. It’s a real slog getting the pieces together to make this thing worth using. On the upside, the iMac is now running like it’s brand new.

A question about #Apple updates. I have been working hard to keep AI off my devices (not easy!). I have gone with DuckDuckGo No AI and I have deleted a lot of apps that won’t allow choice. Does anyone know if the #Tahoe OS update will add in #AI I don’t want on my MacBook? Also Update 26.2 for my iPhone say it has ‘Liquid Glass’ features - but it sounds a bit suspicious to me - anyone got any information before I go ahead and let it download? #AdviceWelcome #iPhone #iMac
