#linux ist echt etwas besonderes:
Bis ca 2002 nutzte ich winNT/2000.
Durch einen kleinen Zufall kam ich zu openSuse.
Das hat mich krass geflasht!
Paar Jahre später blieb ich an LinuxMint als Alltags-OS kleben.
2018/19 kam der, familiär bedingte, Wechsel zu Apple.
Das ist sehr bequem und war auch der Grund es zu nutzen:
Alles funktioniert ohne Zutun sehr gut miteinander.
Heute packte ich meinen alten Laptop mit #linuxmint mal aus (thinkpad x220 von 2012!).
Ich fühlte mich direkt wieder zuhause!

All told it runs MUCH more solidly than the same things did in Windows 10 - I have "fastboot" turned off so I can dual boot to Win10 and every time I have to go back there (maybe once a month) I am struck by how slow and bloated it is. I will let it die completely one day. #LinuxMint

What does it run? This machine runs several background processes: WeeWx, a backend that captures my weather sensor readings and puts it on a web page; Plex, a multimedia server for all my collected movies; HDHomeRun_record - the recording backend for HDHomeRun, which lets all your smart TVs watch free broadcast TV from your antenna(s). I have an old Gateway desktop - 20 years old - and it can't run Windows 11. I got the Win10 extended updates, but installed a SSD and put it on Linux Mint. I'm super happy with it - with some finagling it does more and does it better than the Win10 install. Updated Kernel today and it was a flawless non-event. #Linux #LinuxMint

If you are updating your #linuxmint to kernel 6.17.0-14 and you are using #virtualbox make sure to have version >= 7.2 installed. Otherwise the update will fail.

You can get the latest version from [1]. For Mint 22.3 use Ubuntu 24.04.

I deleted the Steam/Proton shader cache folder for Battle.net/Overwatch a few days ago and let it rebuild fresh, and that seems to have resolved the 10-20 minutes of shader precompilation on every launch, so that's nice :blob_sign_nice:

Das ist schon cool. Auf 2 Geräten genau das jetzt gemacht, nach ca. 15 Minuten war alles fertig und es läuft.....auch bei meinem einen System mit nvidia-karte.

Wer braucht da schon windows 😜

Am 7. März gibt es auch wieder ein Repair-Cafe mit Linux Sonderschicht (Veranstalter: @41352_Einfach_besser_leben), damit auch Andere in diesen Genuss kommen können ;-).

Ich habe die letzten Monate auf #linuxmint gezockt.
Zocke jetzt seit ca. 2Wochen auf #Linux #bazzite

Hatte erst kurz noch gezögert, da Arch und nicht Debian, aber alles Top.
Das System ist noch mal ein richtiger Gamechanger. Allein schon was Optik und Bedienung angeht. Manche Sachen wirken einfach schon durchdachter oder einfach nur angenehmer auf mich.
Auch #worldofwarcraft zu installieren mit #battlenet über #steam ist kein Problem mehr.

This morning I get a new notification from Mint update manager (mintupdate) about Linux 6.17 kernel update. It's from upstream Ubuntu. Canonical has pushed today new updates to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) users, including the Linux 6.17 kernel and Mesa 25.2 graphics stacks from Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quokka).

While I'm no developer, I've spent many years using Mint as an average user. Installed and re-installed countless times. Adjusted settings and root settings. Even set up Jellyfin with Tailscale for self-hosted media (and made it consistently work).

Ich war Linux Mint etwas überdrüssig. Mir war nach was neuem. Und so habe ich heute spontan Mint von meiner Platte geworfen, und tobe mich nun mit Fedora KDE aus. Das habe ich zuvor in einer VM ausprobiert. Und nun auf meinem Hauptsystem. Drucker und Scanner laufen. Das ist erst mal das Wichtigste. Ich bin gespannt auf das was mich da in Zukunft erwartet.

Been using the Cinnamon version of #linuxmint after spending some years using the Xfce one.

I was noticing Cinnamon wasn't as responsive right from the start, but when I booted up a VM with Min 21.2 Xfce to test some things, the difference in how fast it responds to commands was glaring.

Will go back to Xfce when I need to update the computer, which I hope doesn't take another 2~3 years.

Linux Mint, I really like the Cinnamon desktop which is their creation, and find it just works, no tweaking, no glitching, just install, use, forget that this isn't a Windows machine or a Mac since like them, it just works, its just an appliance.
For reasons of no real reason at all, I run the Debian variant

After some decades of speculating, installed my first Linux today. Was easy, looks & works nice, is not mega corporation data-leeching, ad-pushing slop. Old laptop escapes the clutches of Microsoft. #linuxmint

So, mal die App Nextcloud Notes ausprobieren. Die ist extrem minimalistisch, jedenfalls in der iOS Version.

Man kann nichts anpinnen und auch sonst nicht viel machen ausser Kategorien zuweisen und eben Notizen erstellen. Mal sehen ob die alltagstauglich ist.
