#fltk

You know, #FLTK has been good to me. I have a couple actually "complete" projects with FLTK.

I just don't reach for it now that I'm targeting phones.

I actually told a friend last week, "Hey, open this on a laptop or desktop, it won't make any sense on a little phone screen" and she got her tablet out.

People are being born and dying without ever knowing real human-computer interfaces. Mice and keyboards relegated to a curiosity.

It would be fine if they didn't need it, but ... 🧵

F3D 3.4.1 just released!

F3D is a fast and minimalist 3D viewer/renderer which support many formats (gltf, usd, fbx, abc) and tons of options!

In 3.4.1 we improved ⚗️ Alembic support (xForm and Curves support) and shipped 🇨 C bindings!

We also have dozen of examples usage of the libf3d, including C, Java, Qt, QML, FLTK and so on!

Please check it out!

@thomasadam Not thrilled that a lot of the #GUI libraries are dropping #X11 support. I prefer cross platform options and dropping one backend means less portability to environments. I'm switching my own desktop to more lightweight GUI options like #FLTK and #SDL. At least those support X11 for now. #pdcurses also supports X11 via SDL.

4 days and counting to #SoftwareFreedomDay2025. What's your favorite #FLOSS music player? I like the lightweight combo of #FLTK based flrec and #sox. I'm also a fan of #qmmp. #SFD2025

Lagging a few posts for Haiku/haikuports, fltk updated to 1.4.4. :)

(4/7) #FLTK has a lot of the features of standard #GUI libraries but still manages to be lightweight with few dependencies. It's been used with #nano-x to create #XFDOS and #nanolinux. #TinyCore also features FLTK applications. FLTK applications even work on handheld and mobile devices. Here's a list of FLTK programs: fltk.org/links.php?LC+P22+Q While some are designed for older versions of FLTK, I've had no trouble updating many of them to later versions of the library.

Here's a list of some of the more lightweight #graphics editors for low resource computers and editors that work well for younger age groups:

I'd like something lighter, but would also like accessibility support built-in.

I'm looking into #fltk and #imgui as potential alternatives.

I think I'll start porting map to linux with relm4 and use that to gauge how much the framework constrains what I can do.

For me, the best theme combination in fltk-theme for fltk-rs is Aqua widget scheme and Dark color scheme. But the accent color is red (?!) and the buttons are rendered with the background color, making them invisible by default. You have to set the color of every button, which makes no sense to me. I am so tempted to fork it and create my own theme…

fltk-rs is nice. Small binary footprint and few dependencies, easy to use, does not force a single programming pattern for your application, easy to compile for Linux, Mac and Win. But boy... It's ugly... The default themes and color palettes are from the times of Windows 95 and Motif

Well this has been an interesting Journey :P
So uh my first C++11 GUI Program using FLTK is finally finished (minus documentation for WIndows and some minor Makefile Stuff)

Today I learned there's a library for making FLTK programs with Rust. Here are some demos:

#FLTK #Rust #rustlang

After around almost 8 Months i am hopefully soon gonna finally have my first GUI Program finished :P

This is a C++03 Crossplatform Version inspired by a Windows C# GUI Program that hasnt been updated since 8 years now :P

Currently all thats missing is like the Buttons as well as the Custom Setup Settings >.>

Still happy tho with how far i was able to programm this GUI App XD

My really dumb "categorization" UI that basically just makes my filesystem a mess of symbolic links.
Written in C in FLTK (FLTK is a C++ library but I didn't use classes or anything so i basically just compiled C in a C++ compiler). It launches way faster than the GTK3 C version I used to use, and still faster than the Python GTK3 program I used before that. It was also easier to write and has a better file chooser interface. #FLTK

Mcomix image viewer, showing a photo of John Lennon of the Beatles next to Yoko Ono and some others. He's doing some weird dance in a cowboy vest. There's a small "Categorize" UI window in a corner with a drop down list of recently selected categories, which also lists the filename and the currently selected category. It lets you press the 9 key to browse for a new category folder or hit enter to make the link.

@lproven @theregister Iron Man, you have written a great article, I liked it a lot, to hear from this good, old toolkit. Thought that it was already dead, but it has survived all the years! So now one could test how XPP looks in HiDPI (and should it be renamed to WPP then?).

I have added a comment to your article as a reminder to the good old times with #FLTK

Thank you very much!
