My #FOSDEM2026 lightning talk about #IzzyOnDroid download statistics just went live on https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/NJV978-izzyondroid_download_statistics/.
It's a quick (8 minute) talk on how we collect and distribute download statistics at IzzyOnDroid with the slides being full of text to try to keep them usable as reference material.
These download statistics are currently used by #Droidify and #NeoStore to let you more easily find promising #FOSS apps for your use case.

Learning more about #SHIFT and #BlissLabs was great too, what great projects to share our stand with!

I was just a bit confused of what the narrator meant when saying "app store" (hint: not the store, but always the client app) 🙈

Seems this video was made just before #Droidify launched 0.6.8 with download counts, so it calls download stats as #NeoStore-exclusive, but oh well, still cool :)

Very excited to see #Droidify implement the #IzzyOnDroid download statistics!
This means 2 out of the top 3 #FDroid clients now show download statistics for apps downloaded from IzzyOnDroid. Hopefully this convinces more repositories to adopt this!
The part I love most is the different directions Droidify and Neo Store took it. Droid-ify went for simple, just showing the total amount of downloads, while Neo Store went for detailed graph.
What's your preference? Simplicity or detail? :)

2025 had ups and downs, but I loved my 2025 at #IzzyOnDroid.
Our team has grown with several new members and we launched https://izzyondroid.org/, our new web home!
We even got our first grant ever (thanks, @nlnet!), allowing us to bring download statistics to IzzyOnDroid and integrate it directly into #NeoStore (and soon #Droidify), improve the #ReproducibleBuild system and more.
I'm grateful to the team for giving me a space where I feel able to make a difference ❤️

If anyone is curious, my current Android setup is as follows:
I use #NeoStore or #Droidify (currently Neo Store, the new stats support is just too tempting) with the #IzzyOnDroid repo as primary app source, the #FDroid repo as secondary.
If I need something not on either of those, I will use #AuroraStore to access #GooglePlay.
Random APKs from GitHub or whatever only in very very specific cases. I will generally wait until the app drops on F-Droid or (preferably) IzzyOnDroid.

Wollt ich als App auf'm Handy haben. Ausm Playstore runtergeladen. Voll mit Werbung, Pop-Ops und einem Dialog mit "custom marketing profile consent". Nein danke.
Hole mir radio.de. Genau das gleiche. Gehe einmal in #Droidify, lade mir Transistor runter. Geht out of the Box ohne Problem und ohne Werbung.
Viele android Einstellungen sind nur umständlich zu erreichen z. B. schalte ich regelmäßig das private DNS um oder stelle das Gerät für Meetings besonders ein, das ist immer eine wüste Klickerei. Um das zu automatisieren nutze ich seit einiger Zeit Klick'r, damit lassen sich Kaskaden von touchevents speichern und automatisiert abrufen.
