[Hello #Linux J0] Presque trop facile...

:blobreach:

#Linux users seem to love their #terminal. Yesterday I installed #ubuntu on an old Mac mini. Problem, as usual: #Drivers. So I searched the web. #askubuntu, #superuser, … all the typical places. Lengthy articles, all starting with: sudo apt update, sudo apt upgrade.
Sometimes I believe, when you ask a Linux specialists where to get a coffe you will get this answer too…. :-) SCNR
After some more digging and getting to used to the tools, I opened the update tool, additional drivers, found the missing #Broadcom, clicked, waited. Done. No reboot. No Terminal.

Additionally: Yesterday I went to an #Apple #Store with a mac issue (old MBP Intel). Went there, 30 min later fixed at no cost.
Where would I bring my Linux computer? Need the internet. There: sudo apt update, sudo apt upgrade …

If anybody has enough reputation on askubuntu to write a reply (I have not) please consider to add the following annotation to askubuntu.com/a/1541428/220054

The line

> find ${DESTDIR} -name thunderbolt\* -delete

is dangerous because it will delete all files starting with thunderbold if DESTDIR is unset or empty.

It should at least be put in quotes to make find complain about a missing file:

> find "${DESTDIR}" -name thunderbolt\* -delete

Was there some TV show or comic book in the last 10 years that pimped #KaliLinux as a sexy OS to use?

I still poke my head into #AskUbuntu, and almost everyday there is some poor...user trying to install & configure it like a "normal" OS.

It breaks my brain & I feel that I am missing out on some meme.

@ColetteDiskette no, because those have dedicaded, beginner-friendly communities.

Hints towards #AskUbuntu and #UbuntuUsers aside, the #ArchWiki sometimes has better #documentation on #Windows than #Microsoft itself.

I.e. "How do I force #SystemClock to remain #Unixtime and not have Windows fuck around with local time?"

Recently I needed to use #passkeys. Both #chrome / #chromium and #firefox on #linux need usb security key (or a phone with google services). I checked whether #bitwarden browser extensions would do. TBH, it wasn't clear from the docs if you can create a passkey with them.

I tried it, worked. While researching, I found this #askubuntu #stackoverflow question: askubuntu.com/questions/143760. I answered, the way I'd like to find it. Moderators thought my "solution" is not good enough. What do you think?

Both Firefox and Chrome do work with the Bitwarden extension:

(quote):
Browser extensions are supported for the two most recent versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. For Vivaldi, Brave, and Tor, only the most recent version is supported

It can create, store and sync passkeys.

Moderator's comment: This doesn't provide an answer to the question. To criique of request clarifcation from an author, leave a comment below their post.

Answer: OP asks whether Firefox or Chromium on Ubuntu support passkeys. My post contains an answer to that question. With the Bitwarden extension, they do.

Answer: Your answer is not complete and therefore not much of an answer. Where and how do | get this extension and how do | install . This should be in the answer.

Answer: To add to David's comment:. Does this "solution” require you to install a Linux version of Bitwarden app? If so, how do you install it? Does it require a Bitwarden monthiy subscription and online account? Add these information in your answer.

Answer: Thanks for your comments, guys. Feel free to delete my answer, then. | shared a piece of information | thought others might find useful. It is possible to find the things you are asking for with a quick search

@mcc Thanks. More than 10 years ago I found that building sufficient reputation to actually discuss things is toil (unless one asks very trivial questions in a new technology, of course - the more trivial the better).

They can keep what I wrote, but that's that. I've just deleted my profiles at #stackoverflow, #ServerFault, #AskUbuntu, Electrical Engineering and Meta Stack Exchange.

@virtuous_sloth @moritz Ah, I did not realize #StackExchange was involved. That explains it. Stack Exchange recently jailed all their services in #Cloudflare’s walled garden. The free-world circumvention for open access is to SE is to use AnonymousOverflow, but most likely AO would not work on #askUbuntu.

STACK OVER'THROW'

Similar to #youtube_dl we need sites just for mirroring #stackOverflow sites.

Now that #CloudGlare have hijacked #serverFault, unix, #stackExchange, #askUbuntu and the entire StackOverflow family of sites, CloudGlare are more able to learn the types of work people might be doing.

Just more anti-competitive #monopolisation of the dumpster fire we can #theInternet.

We can't bomb CloudGlare datacenters, so a distributed #selfHealing system is needed.

Now, the entire #stackExchange family of sites is #cloudGlare . That means #askubuntu, unix.stackexchange, and many more.

There are things we are going to miss about #theInternet when the time comes.

Welp. After some time spent reading up on the issue, I've signed up for the moderator strike on #StackExchange #AskUbuntu

Now, to try and decide what, if anything, to do with r/xfce on #reddit as other folks use it. #xfce
I'm open to input/feedback.

Open letter to #StackOverflow.com, #askUbuntu, #serverfault, et al,

Not everyone runs your javascript code to remove your #cookiesDialog. Please add an 'background-color' alpha value of 0.9 so people can see through it, or use a "CSS close button trick".

Having to 'Inspect Element' > 'Delete Node' to remove the #HTML element is a bother.

As an aside, non-invasive and non-predatory adverts are fine.

Thanks

There's a bit of confusion among the gurus in #AskUbuntu and #UbuntuForums about how the esm repos have changed with the replacement of Ubuntu Advantage by Ubuntu Pro.

As far as I can tell after decrypting the marketing-speak, it seems to look like this AskUbuntu answer: askubuntu.com/a/1453618/19626

However, correction or confirmation from somebody inside who actually knows the product would be welcome.
