The #SundaySwan is a brilliant Bewick’s! And it has a friend that is a disembodied head.

Still not a duck though. #WeekendWaterbird

A Bewick’s swan stands in a green field. It is a noble looking white swan with a mostly black bill that is yellow at the base. To one side another swan’s head and upper neck is visible but its body is hidden in a dip in the field, which looks a bit freaky.

Birding walk this morning (new hat working well) and I failed to think of getting my camera out for the deer, but here are some hares, a red kite and a fieldfare. None of which are ducks.

It is a stout-looking kind of thrush, with a proud bearing. Two hares (jackrabbits to Americans) running in a green fieldA red kite taking off from a branch. It is a big browny-red bird of prey with a grey head and white patches on its outspread wings, blurry, and rapidly exiting the picture.

The #WeekendWaterbird is a #Cormorant, which is #NotADuck. It might be a dinosaur though.

It is #FourDuckFriday, I think - the days are getting hard to track. So, pick your four ducks from this selection and they are the #DuckOfTheDay. Mind the geese and swans though as they are #NotADuck.

This goose may be getting fat, but it isn’t getting eaten at least. Have a ducking good Christmas everybody.

"Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. Let me tell you about ducks.”

Have a good Christmas y’all, and don’t forget to pay the ducks their tribute - preferably in rolled oats or similar, not bread.

A cormorant standing on a little island, wings outstretched as though it is preaching to the two gulls in front of it that are facing away and clearly completely uninterested.

Excellent sentiment: “the opportunity to see geese is more important than television” (Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac)…

…though I have to add that a goose is but a clumsy, oversized, wannabe duck.

Today’s weekend waterbirds are #geese, though there are a couple of ducks in the photo too so you don’t get withdrawal symptoms. None of the geese are ducks, and one of them isn’t a greylag - can you spot it? Please tell me your anser.
Oh, and please ignore the coot.

A lake stretches away to a muddy shore.

Behind a trio of screening ducks (and a coot), eleven grey geese swim in a line (one going back the other way from ten of them). Most of the geese are fairly chonky with orange bills. Somewhere in the middle one, with a bit of a gap around it, is slighter and has a dark coloured bill.

Take care when wielding a grebe, if you’re not careful you could have someone’s eye out - they’re surprisingly pointy!

Ducks are mostly less pointy, but this is #NotADuck though it is today’s #WeekendWaterbird

Today’s weekend waterbird is a great egret. It is not a mediocre egret, and it is also not a duck.
