A couple of weeks ago we headed up to Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast. It was very cold but local birders were reporting a rare visitor.

The Eastern Black Redstart. When we saw it the Redstart was favouring the windowsills of a block of flats and a small neighbouring building site, not the best background but some clear views.

While we were waiting and searching with the other birders, a large black SUV pulled up and three fellas hopped out who had just arrived from northern Wales!

eBird users are still tagging it there even today if you want to find it.

Une femelle rougequeue noir (plumage beige, queue rousse et noire) de trois-quarts face, en train de s'envoler depuis une clôture couverte de faux gazon sur laquelle elle se tenait. Elle est floue mais on voit bien les détails de sa queue et la finesse des plumes de ses ailes repliées en arc de cercle devant elle. On voit de petites éclaboussures d'eau là d'où elle vient de décoller.

𝗣𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗘𝗻𝗴): A male Black Redstart perches on a wire fence in the city. In the background, a building is no longer recognizable due to the blurriness. The bird's plumage is dark grey with mottled breast, brown and white wings, and a bright reddish underside to the tail.

𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗰𝗶𝗼́𝗻 (𝗘𝘀𝗽): Macho de Colirrojo Tizón posado sobre una alambrada en plena ciudad. Al fondo un edificio que, debido al desenfoque, ya no es reconocible. El plumaje del ave es gris oscuro y jaspeado en el pecho, marrón y blanco en las alas, y de un encendido rojizo en la parte inferior de la cola.

𝗣𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗘𝗻𝗴): A black redstart perched on a wire fence with its back to the viewer, turns its head slightly. We can see its striking winter plumage, with gray and white patches, and the bright brick-red underside of its tail.

𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗰𝗶𝗼́𝗻 (𝗘𝘀𝗽): Un colirrojo tizón posado en una alambrada de espaldas al espectador, vuelve ligeramente la cabeza. Podemos ver su vistoso plumaje de invierno, con manchas grises y blancas, y la parte inferior de la cola de un rojo teja encendido.

J'ai finalement réussi à faire une drinkstation chez moi -Je l'ai appelé l'abreu-voir parce que c'est un abreuvoir à oiseaux et petits animaux et où on peut les voir.
Je ne mets pas de photos de l'installation (et je ne fais pas de bilan) parce je vais probablement la remanier mais voici des photos d'un des premiers visiteurs.

Un rougequeue noir de près et sur une branche. Le petit passereau au bec fin est de dos mais en partie tourné pour faire sa toilettes. Sa queue rousse tranche avec le plumage gris noir du reste de son corps.

En la tronera del observatorio se ha posado un pequeño colirrojo tizón que observa, a su vez, al fotógrafo.

By the way, there are five of them! 🤯 One fell out of the nest the day before yesterday, but we put it back in (but not really thinking it would survive because it must have been hours).
