How good looking is Niri + Dank Shell in a scale from 99 to 100?

Niri is a revolutionary scrolling/tiling window manager, once you start using it it's difficult to switch back to gnome

As I continue to trawl through old backups please enjoy this screenshot of a NetBSD system dated Feb 2005. Not sure what I was up to, or what the system running it was.

I tried #TWM #CWM #CTWM #FVWM and #evilWM as well as #IceWM . It appeared iceWM had so many features from background setting, panel/taskbar customization to window decoration styles and placement. Starting to wonder if it should be called a desktop environment #DE instead of window manager #WM .

A quem for testar, vale a pena conferir as teclas de atalho:

You know I was using #twm window manager for several weeks as I was bootstrapping #nextspace on #freebsd and I gotta say, for minimalism, that thing is flipping nice. Virtual desktops and a max/min to full screen are the only things I didn’t get just so.

#Some #twm setup I've borrowed from somewhere might look cool, but in
order to avoid #rsi in my old #netbook the #cwm window manager is no
match for any one. Everything it's keyboard bound.

Welp, we hit 167 followers on TheLuckyMachine.com and I'm showing off a NEVER BEFORE SEEN robot artwork, as promised!

After being deeply disappointed with a commission, I decided to take things into my own hands. These 2 busts should never be separated

More art at 169 (nice)!

I said if there was 162 people following TheLuckyMachine.com I would post a robot graphite, and here is one! This is the drawing for "Server". A lot of these details get "lost" so to speak in the colorized version, but I just love how many I added.

I managed to make the cables all uniform with a fresh mechanical pencil's eraser, just running it along where I wanted the cables. I love doing eraser details. The only caveat is I have to have patience and do them last!

On Niri. It's wild how TWMs are basically becoming mini-DEs. The integrated screenshot tool and overview make it really hard for me to want to switch to anything else, rip Hyprland for me. Really makes me wonder if we'll get that strange mix of TWM+DE that hits the sweetspot of minimalism, customizability, and integrated functionality. Having to also be the compositor has really changed how these things are designed for the better imo, this is awesome.

Okay fediverse, help me out here.

Find me a tiling window manager that allows me to configure a hard limit on the number of tiles per screen/workspace/whatever.

Day 06 of #31DaysOfFreeBSD :freebsd:

Installed the `xorg` metapackage, a bit of configuring, and `startx` into the included TWM window manager.

Onward!

Still setting up my #FreeBSD #Xorg Desktop PC and I've got #Xterm just how I like it for now with my favourite theme gruvbox. Strangely enough I'm still running the default #Twm as I haven't yet installed a tiling wm like #Herbstluftwm . This feels like the late 80's earlier 90's and I'm having fun learning new stuff even though I used to use Xorg for years before #Wayland . I mean I never ever thought I'd like Xterm but it's way more lightweight and powerfull than I ever gave it credit for.

Tiling window manager users on #YouTube:

"Look, I can open all these windows and the #WM just sorts it for me automatically!"

[windows get smaller and smaller until they're beyond unusable]

And the point of that is...? 🤷
