It's #MentoringMonth. Has your #tutor #mentor program planning started for the 2025-6 program? Here's some ideas to consider. danielbassill319958.substack.com/p/start-plan...

This headline says "Start planning for fall 2026 tutor/mentor programs. While it's only January, the "next year" planning cycle should be growing. This is from an article on Substack.com

I just started following

Since 2005 I've tagged more than 200 of my blog articles with

I invite you to skim through these and borrow freely. tutormentor.blogspot.com/searc

This is one slide from a #tutor #mentor visual essay that I shared at danielbassill319958.substack.com/p/january-is... Building the public will needed to make these supports consistently available in all high poverty areas has been my goal for over 30 years.

This graphic says "In areas with chronic poverty and consistently poor schools, children need support from a full range of tutors and mentors.

A map of Chicago shows high poverty areas. The supports that are needed, from left to right are
- good teachers
- professional tutors
- in-school volunteer tutors
- non-school volunteer tutors
- mentors
- organized, on-going, tutor, mentor programs
- involved parents

This @kumu.io@bsky.brid.gy visualization shows participation in 1994-2015 #Tutor #Mentor conferences held in #Chicago. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2025/12/take... Many of the youth programs on my lists can be found if you enlarge portions of the map, or focus on a single event. Can you find yours?

This is a view of one Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference held in Chicago between May 1994 and May 2015. The visualization was created by students at Indiana University as part of an information visualization class. The orange node is a conference. The green nodes are participants. Enlarge the map and see the org names.

The 1990s photo in the upper right shows teens & staff at the #tutor #mentor program I was leading. At the right is one of those teens at our 2010 year end dinner. We're still connected via Facebook. It was an intentional effort that made this program available for so many years.

In this post I shared another visualization created using Kumu.io and invited students/universities to build similar maps showing the information in the #Tutor #Mentor library. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2025/12/mapp... #datavis #dataviz #conceptmap

This interactive map (created using Kumu.io) can be found on the Landscape of Consciousness website. You'll find four maps like this that visualize theories of consciousness.

I hope my new followers will take a look at my #tutor #mentor blog articles. New one today at Http://tutormentor.blogspot.com

If you're part of a youth program you probably can find your organization on this Kumu visualization. There are many organizations from beyond Chicago, too.

If you're leading a youth #tutor #mentor program, or starting one, this page should be a resource you visit often. tutormentorexchange.net/how-to-start...

This is the www.tutormentorexchange.net website. In the middle a section of articles titled "How to Start and Sustain a Volunteer-Based Tutor/Mentor Program" is featured.

Pick one or more #Chicago area youth #tutor #mentor programs to receive a year-end gift. Use my map and lists.

In Dec. 2005 I wrote about the challenges of raising money for small #tutor #mentor programs. I included that in this 2025 article. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2025/12/same...

This is a collection of photos showing myself along with students and volunteers of the Cabrini Connections tutor/mentor program that I formed in late 1992 and led through mid 2011. Note that to the right of the logo is future President Barack Obama. This was taken at a 1999 Tutor/Mentor conference that the Tutor/Mentor Connection hosted in Chicago.

Are any of you connected to people involved w volunteer-based #tutor #mentor programs? Are they on Mastodon? Please make introductions.

I led such programs for 35 years, from 1975 to 2011. My blog aims to help similar programs get the ideas and resources each needs to operate for that long.

This is a youth and volunteer doing homework in a Chicago tutor/mentor program that I led.

It's part of an article where I point to lists with contact information for more than 100 of these programs.

This was what I wrote on the #Tutor #Mentor blog in December 2005 - 20 years ago. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2005/12/crea...

This is a December 2005 article on the Tutor/Mentor blog. It starts with "Creating a Service and Learning Organization that Mentors Kids to Careers: My 2006 Resolution"

Then it says, "If you've read some of the messages I've posted to this Blog you'll see that I lead a small non profit that seeks to connect workplace volunteers with children and youth living in neighborhoods of highly concentrated poverty.

Our goal is to create an organized framework that encourages volunteers to serve as tutors, mentors, coaches, advocates, friends, leaders in on-going efforts that make a life-changing difference for these kids. By life-changing, I mean that the kids will not be living in poverty when they are adults because they will have the academic, social/emotional and workplace skills needed for 21st century jobs, plus a network of adults who can and will open doors to jobs and mentor them in careers."

Ten years ago this was what I wrote on the #tutor #mentor blog. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2015/12/what...

This 2015 article starts with the question, "What are all the things we need to do to help kids move from birth to work?""

I've used #maps since 1994 to show where volunteer-based #tutor #mentor programs are needed & to point resource providers, parents & volunteers to existing programs in #chicago. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2023/02/what... Does someone in your community do this?

This is the front cover of the 1995 Tutor/mentor Connection Chicago Programs Directory. It includes a map of Chicago with high poverty areas shaded. The stars on the map are locations of tutor/mentor programs that are included in the Directory.

I've shared my lists of programs since 1994. Who in your city has a similar map/list? I use this to draw attention & resources to every program. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2025/

Green icons on this map are locations of volunteer-based tutor, mentor and learning programs in Chicago. This draws from a list of programs that Tutor/Mentor Connection (1993-present) started building in 1993.
