@hzulla @thoralf und wer auf superengem Budget ist kann sich gebrauchte #ThinClients ansehen.
@pauliehedron @BrodieOnLinux I daily drive a #hp #t620 as a mini server, because in #Germany power is expensive af and I want something cheap (€30 used), quiet (fanless!) and having #amd64 durig the #PiShortage.
@drazraeltod Used business computers, a #ThinClient like the #T620 for example, are quite popular as an htpc. You can get them for cheap second hand as entire offices upgrade and liquidate their old models.
Thing is there's no optical drive though. Maybe you're better served by an external optical drive over usb ? Optical drives are definitely less and less common on computers in general, so that will limit your choice
And besides an EeePC 701 4G and a #Vaio #P11Z I also have a #hp #t620 #ThinClient to test @OS1337 on...
@BestGirlGrace I just have a #hp #t620 #ThinClient with @bunsenlabs / #BunsenLabsLinux and @tails_live / #Tails ISOs on it's SSD, using #ventoy to simplify that whole thing even more...
@kwf well, I do plan to use #HTTP + #OpenPGP-#Signatures for @OS1337 packages and distribute OS/1337 release images via #BitTorrent exclusively...
But that's just because I have #Sysadmin experience with #narrowband comnectivity and acknowledge that a #SquidProxy on #ipFire is a way easier and more convenient option to #cache and #mirror than spinning up a custom #repo m-server to mirror distros...
Also #CA's can and will be more likely to provide #LEAs with #Certificates to duplicate than a #distro would...
Still, #upcycling #ThinClients as #MiniServers is nifty and I myself use several #t620's for such purposes like #backups, #downloads and #Torrenting #FLOSS #distros...
@LateNightLinux OFC you were - just like @heiseonline @ct_Magazin were when they bought some #Fujitsu #Futro Thin client with a Celeron J4105 in it, to the point that these are nowadays completely jacked up in pricing on #eBay.de ...
Personally, I use some #hp #t620's as #MiniServer and they run flawlessly with @ubuntu / #Ubuntu 22.04 LTS #Server...
OFC they can also run @Raspberry_Pi #RaspberryPiOS, @bunsenlabs #BunsenLabsLinux and even @tails_live #Tails just fine...
@HopelessDemigod Tho it won't run on #i086 or #i286 but I think a #hp #t620 is also okay in that regard...
After all, being able to just shove the entire floppy in RAM provides a super-snappy and fast experience!
And I do have a soft spot for #ThinClients that are #fanless and provide a very cheap - espechally on the used market - computing experience.
Likewise I think more people would learn #Linux if they had more options besides a @Raspberry_Pi to get crackin':

@aurora sadly every competitior just vomits out some boards with shit to nonexistent documentation.
You might - if you don't need #ARM64 but could also use #ix86 / #amd64 - choose some #ThinClient like a #hp #T620 which can be had for as little as €30 with power supply, optional stand, 4GD DDR3L-SODIMM and 8GB M.2 B-Key SSD.
@billgoats I recommend something like a #hp #T620 #ThinClient for those that want to poke with #Linux on the #Desktop.
You can get one used with 4 GB RAM, WiFi and power supply for less than a @Raspberry_Pi #Pi4B2GB or #CM4WLite1GB at MSRP.
It'll run anything from #RaspberryPiOS for #ix86 and #lightweight #Linux distros like @bunsenlabs #BunsenLabsLinux to @ubuntu #UbuntuServer LTS and even @tails #Tails.
Tho #UbuntuDesktop will feel very slow on it.
But with something like #Porteus it's fine.
