In other news, I gave my goosedown pillows a nice airing out in the cold yesterday, and I slept so well last night! The pillows had the scent of "winter" -- a fresh smell that is hard to describe... One that makes me think of #petrichlor, the scent of the rain on dry soil. Another smell is freshly washed, sun-dried bedsheets in the summer. No chemicals could capture the subtlety of those scents.

You're an inspiration to many of us, @tinker ! And I have to tag this for #SolarPunkSunday ! You are a living example of that!

For this a photo from a sunset walk to the store 🌴

Cause when you walk instead of driving there is time to appreciate the view ;)

A windy rode between jungle on the left ( just a sliver is in the shot) and a lush green grass lawn and a small house on the right. Between the greenery there's a cut that shows a distant small mountain peek in the glow of the setting sun.

Knowing that yt is BAD, that a solarpunk future uses privacy respecting, just tech, that we have a lot of learning and sharing skills and ideas to do, how do we move valuable information currently found on yt to open platforms like Peertube and the internet archive?

How can non-techy people learn more about this stuff, and help? What hashtags would help?

Signing off for Solarpunk Sunday is Johanka the stork, on the Czech rescue centre nestcam at Makov. You can just see the head of her friend, Jonas the crane, standing guard next to the ground-based nest. They may join us with more news from the nest next weekend.

So, I'm still working on the #SolarPunk needed jobs / and not-needed jobs lists. I'll have that ready by next week's #SolarPunkSunday. And then I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the revised lists. I'll be re-posting some SPS posts from yesterday, and then I have a veggie pasta bake to cook up! TY to everyone who used the hashtag, especially @MaQuest and @BrambleBearSnoring . We'll be back at it next weekend!

🌿 Happy #SolarPunkSunday ☀️ 🌱

To me, Solarpunk isn't just an aesthetic of "green cities." It is a protest. It is the punk of digital sovereignty and the right to repair.

Fun Fact: The movement was born out of a desire to move past the doom scrolling of Cyberpunk.

Tech should serve the community, not the corporation.

Supporting open source, keeping old hardware out of landfills, and building local resilience.

Adam Flynn wrote in 2014: "There’s an oppositional quality to solarpunk, but it’s an opposition that begins with infrastructure as a form of resistance."

Solarpunk is a future with dirt under our fingernails and open-source in our pockets.

Hi #SolarpunkSunday. On my mind today: how to convert my rage at fascists & oligarchs into creating those #solarpunk futures.

As a #Witch, the energy fuels my magic. As a creator, it spurs me to act, to write, to reach out and connect with others.

I observe the energy around me. Its flavor. How it's being channeled by communities. How it's being devoured by technofascists.

So, how do you keep control of your energy & not let it be hoovered up by Empire? (Recent workshop content!)

@DoomsdaysCW well, thing is, yootoob is big tech. under boycott for helping ICE. Finding, making, using alternative tech is. I hope anyone intersted in #SolarpunkSunday is willing to try to work around yt and big tech too.

If there are other search engines, or other ways to view yt vids without also generating income for yt and making oneself vulnerable to big tech tracking, that would be cool too. I have duckduckgo as default to choosing duckplayer option is easy.

Will tweek somehow.

Virtual Event - #NewEngland - Which #NativePlants Help #Wildlife? The Science Behind Informed Plant Selection

Thu Mar 12, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM EDT

"You’re ready to plant more native species in your garden to support wildlife. As you start to plan, you might have a few questions. Which plant species make the biggest difference? Does it matter if a plant is a cultivar? How important is local ecotype? Which plant traits attract which #pollinator?

In this talk, Desirée L. Narango, Ph.D., from the #Vermont Center for #Ecostudies, will share research that evaluates how different native plant species and characteristics influence interactions with pollinators and songbirds. Drawing from her research and that of other experts in the field, she will explore what we know (and still don’t know) about common questions in #EcologicalGardening. The talk will also highlight ways you can contribute data through community science and help improve the information available for wildlife-friendly planting decisions.

This event is co-hosted by #WildSeedProject and #MOFGA. The webinar will be recorded, and a recording will be shared with registrants within a few days of the event taking place.

Registration info: This event’s sliding scale registration is designed to keep the class as accessible as possible while also covering MOFGA’s and Wild Seed Project's costs. Recommended price for non-members is $15; recommended price for members is $10.

Scholarship funds are available to community members in order to increase program accessibility, and participants in MOFGA’s Journeyperson program are welcome to register at no-cost. You’re welcome to use the fund by checking “Scholarship/JP” at checkout. For any questions about scholarship funds, please email events@mofga.org."

#WellingboroughUK - #WellingboroughEcoGroup - #CommunityAllotment

Working Parties / Meet-ups are every Wednesday!

"Wellingborough Eco Group have taken on a plot at #LadywellAllotments in Wellingborough, to give people the chance to share skills and to grow plants. The site was cleared and is now a user-friendly space to grow #fruit, #vegetables and other plants to benefit the #community.

The Plan

We decided that everyone should be able to use the plot, so hard standing for car parking, and access to a covered area near the entrance was seen as a must. Spaces for two cars will be provided at the front of the plot. A covered 12′ X 8′ ‘gazebo’ will be on the right as you enter plot. A fence will separate the parking strip from the rest of the plot.

Grass paths will then lead from the gazebo across the plot to the left side, with a raspberry border between it and the fence, and vegetable growing area moving down the plot. Either side of this area, grass paths will run to the bottom of the allotment. Midway down the plot, we will assemble the greenhouse as a central feature. Grass paths will cross the plot in front and behind the greenhouse. Water butts will be put either side of the greenhouse.

The first path will lead to our wildlife garden and pond to the left of the plot, behind the neighbouring plot holders shed. A bench is also planned for this area. The apple tree next to this will have its canopy raised to allow more space for seating and the path.

Behind the #greenhouse, we will construct raised beds and #CompostBins. Our two sheds will be built in the two corners at the rear of the plot. One will be for storage, the other for a composting toilet. A solar panel could be attached to the toilet shed to power a light, water pump and fan for the loo. Both sheds will have numerous water butts alongside them.

The People

Anyone can volunteer at the Community Allotment, you don’t have to know anything about #gardening and tools will be provided. We have working parties at the allotment on Wednesdays, these are advertised on our dedicated Facebook group at facebook.com/groups/communityallotment, meet you at the gates to the allotment at the end of Hillside Road, or call 07311 705705 to get in."
