Sooo, der Mini PC den ich erwähnt hatte ist da.
Es im Grunde ein futro S740, aber auch nicht. Laut wiki ist in meinem Mini das vollwertige Mainboard verbaut. Das im S740 ist abgespeckt.
Nach dem BIOS Update habe ich erstmal #proxmox installiert.
#smartctl gibt aus das die 128GB m.2 SATA SSD 3,3 Jahre lief, aber nur 4,88 GB darauf geschrieben wurden.
Als nächstes wird eine Debian VM erstellt und dann mit Software gefüllt.
Wonder if this NVMe SSD is going to explode at some point because so much stuff has been written to the error log? I've not really managed to find out if this is something I should be concerned about, or just normal...

Tools on friggen #Windows (#CrystalDiskInfo) CAN DO it, so SHOULD smartmontools on #Linux, automatically!

Y'all, if you have a #fileserver, always have a parity disk in the #raid volume. ALWAYS. They have saved my ass so many times. And, for the love of all that is righteous, make offline backups of your precious volumes.

I might be tempting fate for sharing this but damn, these older WD Red drives are amazing. That is about 8.6 years when converted.

@rodlie if you re-initialize the SSD and make sure that it doesn't stay without power for that long {year} it should retain your data as long as it is within the lifespan of the device, correct?

Since I never trusted SSDs fully with my important data, they are all on mechanicals, as backups, I will not be at the loss with the SSDs that I've left powered off for more than 2 years

I hear a few "clicking" sounds from the laptop, and figure the #seagate #firecuda #hdd might have trouble. I run a 'short' #smartctl test, which returns no errors.
Still suspicious, I launch a 'long' test.
Instantaneously, the drive drops offline and stops answering `smartctl` queries. It's still shown by `lsblk`, but `dmesg`complains that the drive is inaccessible. Online info suggests the drive may be bricked.
Stupid due to hunger, I disassemble the hdd to see what's wrong.

Working on a computer (debloated #Lenovo #IdeaPad with 8 GB of RAM) and I decided to do a S.M.A.R.T. test on the drive since I haven't yet and it's 7 years old, and #Plasma6 with #EndeavourOS runs amazingly on it from a USB drive (using #smartctl for this due to not having installed any disk checking utilities) compared to #Windows10 on the slow #Toshiba #laptop drive. It makes #X11 look super smooth and responsive. #Wayland would probably look like a hot knife through butter.

Et l'idée est la suivante : que la plus vielle machine de la baie, d'eIDL, soit un stockage NFS gérant une grosse grappe RAID5, avec des Smart test en boucle, sur toute les HD qu'on trouve. Dès qu'un disquossaure, passe un seuil, -> déchetterie, remplacement, reconstitution du RAID.
Ya un dev que ça branche la partie SMART test / alerte mail ?
