I hadn't visited Garden of the Gods before about 2 weeks ago, and while I had certainly seen images from there before, I remembered the photos being of very similar scenes over and over (wider-angle shots). While I didn't go out of my way to study photos (in order to preserve the experience as fresh), I was pretty sure I hadn't seen this exact image before. Shot at 233 mm, I tried to select a small scene for which the intense backlight would actually work. On Friday, last day of our vacation, I felt the urge to test myself with another trailrun...well maybe "run" is a bit stretched for some parts. After 4 kilometres I had to give up on my planned route and turned around as snow got deeper and deeper up the mountain and my socks and shoes were completely soaked. Nevertheless it was a great experience all alone in the woods and snow.

On day 3 we've been cautious again and did not took the route via Gehrengrat towards the next hut. Instead we got past the Spullersee, descended back into the Lech valley and hiked along the Lech (this segment was part of another long-distance hiking trail - the Lechweg) until we reached the Formarinsee.
Upon arriving at the lake, we settled for the white-blue-white marked route on the eastern side towards the Freiburger Hütte. I got lucky here as about halfway along the lake a maybe fist-sized stone came crashing down from above a few metres behind me.

Duration: 6 hours and 25 minutes (including uncounted breaks for food, photos or simply to enjoy nature)

Elevation: 1580 m to 1948 m
Ascent/Descent: 400 m ↑ and 425 m ↓

Let's continue where we stopped last week: still at the Stuttgarter Hütte, still day 2 of the Lechquellenrunde.
We listened to the inn keeper and split our tour in half as snow prevented us from taking the "normal" way through the Madlochjoch: First down to Zürs on the same route as yesterday and then we took the bus to Zug via Lech.
From there on it was all up again until we reached the Ravensburger Hütte at the Spullersee. The sun was strong during the second part and I sweated a lot.

Elevation: 1485 m to 2310 m
Ascent/Descent: 570 m ↑ and 725 m ↓

Because we had to reroute again on the second day on our take on the Lechquellenrunde in June 2024, we started the day with an unplanned summit ascent.

From Stuttgarter Hütte it took us roughly an hour to reach the Fanggekarspitze (2640 m). Gladly the snow-covered path was already groomed.
While the weather on the hut was lovely, it got really cold, windy, grey and misty the higher we got. Sight distance was probly between 10 to 15 meters at the peak.

The hike towards the next hut (still day 2!) will be featured in another post next Thursday.

Because my left foot doesn't feel stable enough for longer running sessions (yet), I needed an alternative. So I tried something entirely new for me and woke up really early for some morning hikes before work on Monday and today. Perfect for testing out my new headtorch. It was absolutely worth it - I saw a fox, two deers, a yellow (and a bit scary) pair of unknown eyes glowing in the dark and zero people!
