Starting tomorrow is the 4 day Annual Global Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). 1000's of birders, worldwide, will go out & bird.

I & people I work with have been participating for many years, this year too some events are planned. Sharing a picture of Kalij Pheasants, & also the promo poster.

A Landscape format picture of two Kalij Pheasants , on snow. The two birds (male & female) are standing next to each other - partly sideways to the observer. There head is to the centre and body flows to the right of the frame. The male is closer and looking straight into the camera - both eyes are visible- the female, which parallel but a bit forward has its head turned even more and looking at the camera through its right eye. The male and female are approximately the same size, maybe around the size of medium to large rooster. The legs are typically Pheasant like - Long cental middle two - two on the sides and a spur at the back. he Legs are bare till the thighs. The male has a silver white crest an ivory reak not long not short and slighly down curved. The back is deep blue black with some speckling of silver white. A small part of the next nd the full breast and belly is downward streaked with silvery white feathers. Some silver while is also at th base of a tail (vertically erect like a helicopter tail rotor and not flat flat like a raptor tail) The female has a brown crest - the bare skin around the eye is less prominent. The beak and feet are the same. The nture body and back is covered in downward facing white crescent moons set on a light non red mud brown. Both birds are on show on the edge of a snow covered field / rock.
