A very happy #Shrove Tuesday to everyone. #Pancake Day, the day before #Lent starts.

We just ate ours, but apparently in Guernsey, you can run with them! (I haven't had much success running this year, I think it's best to sit down and eat them!)

But, for fans of Quirky British Traditions - here is: Pancake Racing, coin edition!

Happy Valentine's Day from Coin of Note, to you!

There are many coins which celebrate love and valentines day - most of which are non-circulating, collector silver coins. Instead, I've gone with a "trinket" piece, literally, a token of love :)

Spend time with those you love, rather than just money today :)

I just shared currency's post of the Uzbekistan Soʻm featuring an image of the 10 Soʻm coin and linking to the Wikipedia article about the currency. I wrote a post about that coin on my blog awhile back: coinofnote.com/2001-uzbekistan

If you read the Wikipedia article, did I miss anything important I should cover on a future post about Uzbekistan currency?

Renown numismatist Jeff Garrett helped create a restrike of the Libertas Americana medal with the NFL logo and "HEADS" and "TAILS" on its respective sides for the toss coin. America is depicted as an infant Hercules, strangling two serpents representing the armies of Burgoyne and Cornwallis. He is defended by France, represented as the warrior-goddess Minerva, clad in breastplate and plumed helmet, holding a shield bearing the fleurs de lys of France. New technical bloggage from @ewg118 : "Improving searchability using Natural Language Processing and Wikidata"

numishare.blogspot.com/2026/01

> The Python Natural Language Processing Toolkit and FastAPI form the foundation for new, major improvements in the searchability of various numismatic projects, beginning with American Numismatic Society type corpora such as OCRE and Hellenistic Royal Coinages. These improvements currently apply to all online type corporate published by the ANS and are slowly reindexing in the ANS collections database, MANTIS, to improve large swath's of the ANS's collection of Greek and Roman coins that have been linked to these coin type URIs. This work began in the fall and was finally put into production over the course of December 2025.

Rare Celtic gold coins found in Swiss bog may reveal ancient ritual offerings

Two extremely rare Celtic gold coins that were found in a woodland near Arisdorf in northwestern Switzerland are providing new information about the early phases of coinage in the area and ritual practices dating back more than 2,000 years. The gold coins were found in a follow-up survey and date back to around the middle and second half of the 3rd century BCE, making them among the oldest known Celtic coins found in Switzerland...

Here's a coin which looks better in hand than in my poor photos. Rome, 336 - 342 AD.

Two soldiers holding spiers and shields, military standard between them.

Issued under a few different emperors, I can get "constans" as the start of the obverse inscription, and between that and the portrait, I'm going with "Constans" but happy to be cvorrected (and happy for a mint if anyone can read that in the exergue of the reverse (under the soldiers)).
