Here's a coin which looks better in hand than in my poor photos. Rome, 336 - 342 AD.

Two soldiers holding spiers and shields, military standard between them.

Issued under a few different emperors, I can get "constans" as the start of the obverse inscription, and between that and the portrait, I'm going with "Constans" but happy to be cvorrected (and happy for a mint if anyone can read that in the exergue of the reverse (under the soldiers)).

#Australian #Supercars legend Allan Moffat passed away today aged 83. Moffat won four Australian Touring Car Championships, four #Bathurst victories, six Sandown wins, & more than three decades of extraordinary #Motorsport achievement.

#Moffat, famously a #Ford man, had a longstanding rivalry & friendship with legendary #Holden (General Motors) driver, Peter #Brock.

Article on Moffat: speedcafe.com/supercars-news-a

Here is a piece I wrote on the 2018 XC Falcon Cobra 40 Years PMC: coinofnote.com/2018-xc-falcon-. I didn't mention Moffat in the piece, he drove several XC falcons. He won Bathurst 1977 in an XC Falcon (pictured). In 1978, he drove the Cobra variant (like in the PMC), securing Pole position with a record time of 2:21.59 and a speed down Conrod strait of 159 mph, although ultimate forced to retire that race with a broken engine.

One thing I really enjoyed learning about with this piece from Papua New Guinea was the the different tribes - particularly the #Skeleton #Tribe - which seems appropriate this week for Halloween

While the link here might be tenuous, what is your favourite #numismatic piece linked to #Halloween?

Here's one I saw online - a USA #Nickel cut to leave just a #cross in the centre.

I have a #USA #Cent which is cut the other way - only the cross shape has been removed from the middle:

"Federal Reserve contractors suspend Lincoln cent orders"

coinworld.com/news/us-coins/fe

"The Federal Reserve reports that 28 armored carrier locations nationwide contracted to distribute coins and paper money across the 12 Federal Reserve Bank districts have suspended orders and deposits involving Lincoln cents. Their action is pursuant to the Treasury Department’s decision earlier this year to suspend circulating cent production at the Denver and Philadelphia Mints. Cent production and distribution costs have well exceeded face value for more than a decade."

At the Federation of #Australia in 1901, one of the inducements for western Australia to join was the promoter of a federally funded #railway to link the continent. In 1907 legislation was passed and on 17th October 1917, the Trans-Australian railway was completed. Commonwealth #Railways was formed to run the line.

Here is a #PNC commemorating the centenary in 2017. Featuring a large coloured medallion and a $1 stamp featuring a poster.
