Forging coins isn't new - this E-Sylum article covers some of the most ancient forgers: coinbooks.org/v29/esylum_v29n0

I've previously written about my own Augustus Denarius "Fouree" from ancient Rome:

Here's a coin which looks better in hand than in my poor photos. Rome, 336 - 342 AD.

Two soldiers holding spiers and shields, military standard between them.

Issued under a few different emperors, I can get "constans" as the start of the obverse inscription, and between that and the portrait, I'm going with "Constans" but happy to be cvorrected (and happy for a mint if anyone can read that in the exergue of the reverse (under the soldiers)).

Yesterday I went through a lot of coins, so many coins, some I have no idea where they are from. Some I think I can only post under a CW as they are full on British Empire era, my grandfather, his siblings and also their father served during both World Wars and traveled to what was to them, far off lands, leading to various strange tales which have been passed down.

I was hoping my favorite from childhood had not gone missing over the years, and luckily it was in the correct box exactly as I remembered it. I have no idea why this is my favorite, maybe as it is so small and in such good condition? It is a One Third Farthing, from 1902.

A small bronze coin, about 10% smaller than an modern day 5 pence piece (5/8ths or 16mm in diameter). On this side there is a crown at the top and leaves acting as a border. The text on the coin reads "ONE THIRD FARTHING 1902"A small bronze coin, about 10% smaller than an modern day 5 pence piece (5/8ths or 16mm in diameter). On this side the head of George VII is shown with bald head and beard, the text around the edge reads "EDWARDVS VII D: G: BRITT: OMN: REX: F: D: IND: IMP:"

In this week's E-Sylum, an article on the US Mint's semiquincentennial coin launch:

coinbooks.org/v28/esylum_v28n5

What is a semiquincentennial? It is "a very long word for a very big anniversary — 2026 is the semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary, of the United States.

Semiquincentennial derives from the Latin words semi, "half," quinque, "five," and centum, "one hundred." You don't need this word very often, since it's rare that a country, building, or organization marks its 250th anniversary, but when you do, it's a big deal. The British Parliament celebrated its semiquincentennial in 1957, and the Taj Mahal was built in 1648, which means its semiquincentennial happened back in 1898."
