I know a young person experiencing and learning to adapt to life with POTS
They are exploring mobility aids, but have very limited resources, so I’m looking for advice on rollators vs wheelchair for function, utility, flexibility, comfort, and because cost. In general they experience symptoms on the milder side of things; vertical and functional through most school days and activities, doing well for several weeks at a stretch then experiencing periods where worsening symptoms prevent them from keeping up. Activities out of the house include high school, drama, choir, public transit (including a walking ‘last mile’ at times) and craft/maker fairs. Location Edmonton, so winter climate a consideration.
Advice and comments from experience and boosts/tags welcome, I know there are many of you out there.

Hi! I'm Demian (he/they) and I have Long COVID, which causes extreme chronic fatigue and post-exertional malaise.
This leaves me in need of two things.
1) a more accessible shower (the one I currently have requires me to move both legs from a height that's inaccessible to me (and even using armrests is painful and difficult).
2) a wheelchair so I can have independent mobility (the doorway is too narrow, and minor work needs to be done to make it easier to get in and out with the wheelchair).
This fundraising effort is so I can have a wheelchair-accessible entrance and an accessible bathroom for my fatigue.

1) tener una ducha más accesible (la que tengo actualmente hace que tenga que mover ambas piernas con una altura que es inaccesible para mí (e incluso poniendo apoyos en los brazos se me hace doloroso y difícil).
2) una silla de ruedas para tener autonomía en mi movilidad (la entrada de la puerta es demasiado estrecha y se tiene que hacer una pequeña obra para poder entrar y salir con la silla de ruedas con facilidad).
Esta recaudación es para que yo pueda tener una entrada accesible para silla de ruedas y un baño accesible para mi situación de fatiga.

Most of this morning, I'll be at Fisher Building for orthotics fittings on a new left night brace being made & to get some minor repairs on one of my long leg braces.
I'll be talking to my orthotist about the need to return to getting heel lifts built onto my right boots because I am pretty sure that my leg length differential(from initial polio illness/paralysis) has increased over the years. It would also help my back hurt less & allow me to walk for longer periods, by getting this leg length differential dealt with.

Stephanie, my trusted & excellent orthotist at Fisher Building, fixed both of my leg braces today. This is the left AFO - added foot cushioning & two new straps were put on to replace older ones that weren't holding up. My right AFO had specialty heel airhole cushioning & back of ankle padding added & I had her replace the top thigh strap too.
She has put in a funding assistance form for one specialty brace for my lower left leg to deal with some floppy foot & pain related issues when I try to sleep. Hopefully I get full funding assistance because orthotics are hella expensive to pay out of pocket for.

Got paid today from SSI, and it's basically already spent. Ordered my boys' food, more of his training treats, some ear protection to start desensitizing him to them, and a new leash I've been eyeballing for a while. Oh, and cat food! The rest is for his health insurance and possibly some more medical stuff for me or maybe comfy clothes. Those moments you realize most your money goes towards your #ServiceDogInTraining but that's just how it be. He deserves the best.
