Earlier, while waiting for my orthotist, in between adjustment fittings & measuring for my right foot lift request. Goofing around with skeletal model hands & looking at the foot lift gauge blocks.
My left leg has been longer than my right leg since being struck & paralyzed by #polio in my toddler years. The illness stunted a lot of my physical growth. I wore very visible foot lifts from age 6-age 12. I stopped wearing them because kids physically bullied me & called me Frankenstein when I wore them. I stopped wearing them & spent the next 20 years of my life, trying to hide my disabilities. I stopped hiding my disabilities after getting therapy for a lot of childhood trauma issues that were directly tied to being bullied for being disabled & Asian as a young child.

Most of this morning, I'll be at Fisher Building for orthotics fittings on a new left night brace being made & to get some minor repairs on one of my long leg braces.
I'll be talking to my orthotist about the need to return to getting heel lifts built onto my right boots because I am pretty sure that my leg length differential(from initial polio illness/paralysis) has increased over the years. It would also help my back hurt less & allow me to walk for longer periods, by getting this leg length differential dealt with.

Stephanie, my trusted & excellent orthotist at Fisher Building, fixed both of my leg braces today. This is the left AFO - added foot cushioning & two new straps were put on to replace older ones that weren't holding up. My right AFO had specialty heel airhole cushioning & back of ankle padding added & I had her replace the top thigh strap too.
She has put in a funding assistance form for one specialty brace for my lower left leg to deal with some floppy foot & pain related issues when I try to sleep. Hopefully I get full funding assistance because orthotics are hella expensive to pay out of pocket for.

The same place that made my first leg braces in 1980. I've never gone anywhere else. Many of the former staff there watched me grow from a child into an adult.
I got my photos back from my first fashion shoot last week.
My left foot is so hot right now.
Also, with all the sadness in the world -- wars (plural! In the 21st century!), labor strikes, climate catastrophe -- we all need this heartwarming story.
As a person living with mobility issues, I identify so much with this sweet little penguin who has been given a second shot at life with custom #orthotics.
First, ignore the wet spot on the dog blanket. That's Benson waiting to be fed.
Second, I have officially officially entered the Comfort Orthotic Shoe Phase of #MiddleAgedHotness.
1. Dansko's pink/orange tennis sandal reminds me of the shoe my old amazing boss Laura would walk to work at the YW. (Watching her work her Board and mgmt team was an education. She was an Iron Maiden. I dug it.) I have officially become a Boss Lady, by that measure.
2. And Birkenstock's sandal gives some nice support to the PlantationFascist in my right foot.
(That's what I'm calling plantar fasciitis -- because it's giving oppression and pain.)

Was off to get molded for new orthotics. Things have come a long way in since my last ones 10+ years ago. In and out in 10 minutes as they have neat foam things for making the molds rather than the old plaster casting.
They also have very nice greeter.
