This tree has sadly fallen over since I took this image, but, to think of how incredible this tree was when it was alive, before it was hollowed out by a fire. At its death, the tree was over 1.5m in diameter! That's thick!

A large hollowed tree leans across the frame. The background a lush forest, obscured by cold blue fog. The trees enormous size overshadows the still living and large trees that surround it. It features a large carved out channel extending through most of the frame, burned and carved by an old fire. The tree is covered in mosses lichens.

Happy er er er... *Sigh* hopefully you'll enjoy this waterfall closeup!

A closeup of a massive waterfall. The water and shadows a deep blue colour due to the strong shadows cast across the scene. The water trickles down hundreds of small sharper rocks, with many of these rocks formed so they point upwards, splitting the water jn multiple thin threads of water. The exposure is long so the water paths as it weaves between these sharp rocks is clear. The rocks also form a circular shape with a bowl like shape in the middle. Its what made me think of a crown and gave the image its name.

Ice Fields Parkway - Anyone recognize this famous peak?

Taken on my own road trip through the area back in 2023 it was hard not to stop and take a shot with this kind of light.

A snow mountain peak from within the icefields parkway. Trees line the sides of a deep snow covered banks. The sky is filled with layers of cloud. A small bit of warmth from the start of sunset glows on the right side of the screen.

The Wolf's Paw

Often I show up early to pre-compose a shot leaving me waiting for the sun to shift and the light I wanted to reveal itself. This gives me lots of time to explore the areas around me, sometimes allowing me to stumble onto small scenes like this.

On this occasion I found pockets of air trapped in the ice, with a few pockets having broken the surface to reveal what look like a canine paw.

An icy lake bed with bubbles form underneath the surface. A few bubbles have broken the surface revealing a patter that resembles the paw print of a canine.

This particular sea cave is only safely accessible at low tides, so you have to time the tides right as to get the channel flowing.

Ancient Grove

This tree is no longer accessible due to destroying a perfectly good road. So, despite wanting to re-photograph it in other seasons I won't be able to.

On the bright side - it means this tree likely won't be destroyed by the crowd that had already done measurable damage to the fern and forest floor here.

An enormous old growth tree sits amongst a spring forest. A sun-star is created through the narrow branches. The tree is h ique in that one if it's branches extends nearly horizontally from its base.

For #MountainMonday:

Low clouds from a passing storm swirl around Indian Arm and Mount Underhill with Hixon Peak and Mount Bonnycastle in the background. This view of Indian Arm and the surrounding mountains was photographed from Burnaby Mountain in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.

A view looking down into an inlet surrounded by forested hills and mountains. The inlet is barely visible, the surrounding hills and mountains are spotted with direct sunlight alternative with parts in the shade of the clouds. A small amount of cloud remains over of the hills in the middle of the frame. The background is filled with tall mountains with their peaks shrouded in clouds.

Another favourite from showing the incredible wild expanses hidden in the permafrost terrain. I've said it many times before, but the scale of this place is just so hard to comprehend. Thousand meter peaks that end up looking like rolling hills, while shrubs and trees create difficult to understand distance as their size is more dependant on the local streams, than to elevation.

A sweeping valley carved by glaciers and moved by the heave of the permafrost ground. Large oeaks sit on either side, and the overcast day lets small glimpses of blue sky through. A variety of green through yellow coloured foliage rests in the valley, you can see the flow of main water channels across the valley by following the growth of the trees alongside the water.

Probably one of my favourite shots from the trip. I like high contrast in black and white photos. And geometry. And curves if possible.

is here! So, one of my favourites (even included it in my calendar) - Fledgling, named due to the cute size of this mossy stump that appears to be protected by the large Vine Maple.

What a gift to have stunning places like this to explore (carefully too, don't ruin the moss people!)

A mossy gross featuring a small stump completely shrouded in loss. Large maple vines covered in loss hang overtop shadowing parts of the scene. The forest floor is covered in lillys and ferns.

Happy and everyone! Here's hoping for another great year!

I took this image of the Organ Pipes in my multi day trip through . They're named such because of the enormous vertical pipe like structures seen around this entire valley. A very cool formation to see in the wild. Almost like basalt pillars, but, made from a sedimentary type rock.

A grand landscape scene of the Organ Pipes. Small shrubbery variety frame the foreground, while the far side of the cliff edge is seen in the mid-ground composed of vertical pillar like channels eroded from the sides of the cliffside

@grammasaurus LPW is for Landscape Photographers Worldwide. Its a discord server I used to Admin (recently stepped down). If the tag + one of any of a series of other landscape/nature based tags is used it gets auto posted in the server for members there to view via RSS.

It was a way to create a social feed for the community there that was not Meta based.

@geoff_eg Gorgeous photo which *looks* cold! as for falling through the ice….no thanks. It’s good you were prepared.

I’m curious about the hashtag—what does it stand for?

Cold Morning at Chefron (2023)

Fun fact - I took this image about 15min before I fell through the ice into the river below... That was the first of two times I would fall into a river in winter that year. I wouldn't recommend.

Thankfully, I was nearby my car and had a sleeping bag and dry clothes ready to change into! Paid off to be prepared.

A snowy winter scene taken ontop thin ice. Holes in the ice reflect the sunrise light and the snowy peak in the distance. The ice over the river is covered in thin ice with frost ontop.

Found a few photos from a half-day trip I did earlier this year to Springbrook that I have not shared at that time. I really love big mossy rocks and couldn't just pass by. Was fortunate to get some patchy fog on the day as well.

Blue hour at the Grand Canyon. I overheard people at the edge say ‘it’s not straight down’, but I wasn’t going to verify that.

I've spent my morning editing photos - I lost all my 2020-2022 edits with a hard drive messup a few years ago, but, I'm currently working through them. So, for here is a refreshed edit of A Cold Morning At Assiniboine.

An image of Mount Assiniboine reflected in a small pond. The early morning light touches the peaks, while frost can be seen on the foreground shrubs. Subtle fog drifts off the lake in the distance.

For #MountainMonday - Osprey Mountain and surrounding peaks reflecting on Katzie Marsh in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada.

A mountain range with no snow on it in the early fall - is reflected in a foreground marsh with a dike creating a horizontal line between the two across the middle. The day is sunny, a few clouds in the sky, and the reflection on the marsh is nearly perfect.
