Water is flowing down the Irish Hills in San Luis Obispo, creating small waterfalls and creeks. There are two small waterfalls (one above the other) with lots of rocks and a few plants growing around the edges. This is on the Old Prospector's Trail near Froom Creek.

Finally, the weather is getting warmer, although local creeks are still frozen ❄️🙄🧊
They won’t be fishable before the PA extended trout season ends.
I’ll need to drive a bit farther to fish creeks that are open year-round until trout season begins in April 🤔

When I got back to the car from this trek my nostrils were on fire. At first I thought it was because it was so cold… then realized the safety had come off my bear spray, making this officially the second time I’ve bear maced myself 🙃

This image sparked a series of attempts to create #Waterfall images taken from the tops of #Waterfalls - a pursuite I quickly abandoned after realizing how incredibly dangerous it was.

For this shot, I sat with my rear on dry rock, feet dangling over the edge. My camera on a tripod, leaning over the 30m drop, strap around my neck as a counter balance...

Gotta be young and stupid to be old and wise.

A waterfall plummets over the edge of a steep cliff from the left of the frame into the centre where it crashes into a flat opening stripped of trees and vegetation. Broken trees and logs can be seen piled at the bottom. Heavy mist from the rain fogs the forest that surrounds the "pit". The waterfalls flow is smoothed by the longer exposure showing 4 main streams of turbulent water that join into the main freefall.

I love my #dSLR, but sometimes the iPhone just does it better.

But not sure how I would land the fish without dragging them across the ice, which would harm them…unless they are fish I want to keep 🤔

The waterfall is frozen except for the middle, where plunging water is still visible. The pool below is also frozen, with only the center open where the water crashes down. It’s a partly sunny late afternoon in the woods.

Twice Seen, Never Forgotten

Late September: There had been a lot of rain. The waterfalls were full, rivers overflowed and the meadows were flooded. The water had been standing long enough for pond weed to grow in snaking tendrils.

In the surface of the short-lived pool. the beautiful cascades at Valagil were virtually doubled.

I've been on the lookout for interesting hashtags to follow and participate in related to my interests such as photography, generative art, music, etc. Something like #WaterfallWednesday would involve mining my archives, and I'd run out before long unless I got out to some of the local ones. I suppose maybe that's the point. Anyways, here is a cool waterfall I found deep in a side canyon on my self-supported Grand Canyon rafting expedition in January of 2015.

$A portrait orientation landscape photo of red sandstone cliffs leading up up and up higher. It is deep in the Grand Canyon. There are some small shrubs on the lower portions where it is damp, but it is very arid further up away from the river. A bit of blue sky is seen above, and a small waterfall is pouring down in the middle of the frame into a cold, surprisingly deep pool that will work its way down to the main flow of the Colorado River. There are some precariously stacked boulders at the top and side of the falls. It's humbling and a bit concerning to think about the intense flows that must have been required to move those into place. Also, about how there are probably very few people on the planet who have seen this waterfall due to how it is both extremely difficult to access and not notable enough for anyone to seek it out specifically. This was shot handheld with a Fujifilm X-T1 and an XF 18-55 lens at 20mm, f22, 1/8s, and ISO400. Yeah, I accidentally bumped the aperture ring off of automatic, so it's got more depth of field than I probably needed, and a bit more diffraction noise than average, but it actually looks pretty good printed large, as I gifted a framed print to my cousin.$
