@cstross

Wild guess:

They'll try to swap them for a batch of the U.S.A.'s modern ones that don't work in combat and that have a brick where the radar is supposed to be. (-:

On This Day 8th February 1993.

467, Lockheed C-130H Hercules, Royal Saudi Air Force, parked on the cargo ramp at Manchester Airport, 8th February 1993, on one of my rare visits over to that side of the airport, which was pretty much inaccessible without a car.
Saudi Herc's were a regular sight back then, it wasn't unknown to have 3 or 4 on the ground at once, picking up supplies from one of the British Aerospace factories in the area.

Side view of a high-winged, 4 propellor-engined military cargo plane parked facing to the right.
The plane is covered in a 3-tone sandy brown camouflage scheme, with low-visibility markings in all the usual places in the fuselage, only a green pennant with white text in an Arabic script on the tail providing any contrast.
A black chain-link fence topped with barbed wire stretches across the foreground, with a wide strip of grass behind it leading up to the apron area.
A large terminal building fills most of the background, with a tall, glass-topped control tower in the background.
The tails of several jet airliners can be seen in the distance, under flat grey sky.

Side view of a red and white, 3 engined jet airliner being towed from right to left by a low-slung, red tug attached to the nose-wheel by a along yellow pole.
The plane has red upper surfaces with a metallic grey belly, with a thick white stripe running along the body covering the cockpit and passenger cabin windows.
There are small, red, "LTU" titles on the upper forward fuselage, between the rear of the cockpit and the forward door.
The red tail has large white "LTU" titles in the middle, with a small German flag at the top.
The under-wing engine pods are a bare metal, with small, red "LTU" titles and black "TriStar" text next to the intake.
The centre engine intake in front of the tail is white, with black "TriStar" text,
Grey concrete apron fills the foreground, with green grass and black taxiways and a runway vanishing into mist in the background.

Almost head on view of a high-winged, 4 propellor-engined military transport aircraft parked facing slightly to the right of the camera.
The plane has a black radome in the nose, under a heavily glaze cockpit, with a grey and olive green camouflage pattern covering the rest of the plane.
The large black number "210" can be seen on either side of the nose, below the lowest of the cockpit windows, and a large blue and red roundel can be made out on the right rear fuselage.
On the far side of the plane, a a door can be seen hanging down from just aft of the cockpit, with stairs formed in the inside.
The 4 bladed propellors on the engines are all aligned nicely, in the 4 cardinal positions, with red and white bands on the tips.
An orange power cable snakes across the black tarmac the plane is parked on from the left, rising up to plug into an open panel in the nose.
In the background, crowds of people can be seen behind temporary metal fences,,,, with various stalls and tents behind them, including one festooned with large brown teddy bears.
Flat grey sky fills the rest of the frame.

Side view of a twin engined jet airliner taxiing from left to right at a busy airport. The plane is largely white, with mauve, billboard-style "Qatar" titles on the forward fuselage, repeated in a grey Arabic script on the upper forward fuselage, above the wing root, and the black registration "A7-BOF" on the lower rear fuselage, just below the last few cabin windows, and a small Qatari flag just above those windows. The tail is a very light grey, with darker grey stripes overlaid with the head of an animal with horns sticking out of the back of it's head. A smaller, circular version of the tail logo appears on the side of the white engine pods mounted under the wings. Grey concrete apron, marked with yellow lines for planes to follow, some of which are lit up, fills the foreground. More apron space fills the background, with a total of 13 jet airliners visible, parked facing in various directions, in an array of liveries that predominantly feature shades of white, blue, grey, and red. Trees in the distance are being swallowed up by grey mist.
