@Defolos Couple years ago I worked on C++ () project that on 64GB machine was OOM killing whole system, unless `make` was tamed `-j <n>` where n < half CPU cores.

has control over number of parallel compilers running - try that.

@elebertus

I've got ~6 #Rust apps that I use and try to keep updated using #Cargo in my userspace. I use `cargo install-update` to try and keep them current.

Three of the apps update quite frequently. So I, naturally, try and update them to keep up with new features, etc...
I'd say ~90% of the time the apps fail to update due to a dependency that fails to compile. Of course, these failures occur really late in the compilation chain and I end up wasting time & resources to reach that conclusion. :-/

They're not mission critical; but, it's pretty extremely user hostile IMNSHO.

(I fully expect someone to chime in and tell me that I'm "doing it wrong") *shrug*

BBC: The shadowy world of abandoned #oil #tankers - bbc.com/news/articles/cddg8853

International shipping is notoriously murky. Flags of conveninence (#FOC) are only a part of the puzzles; #ships are bought and sold like commodities while underway, and a #cargo's ownership likewise changes en route.

Whether to dodge taxes or 'safely' finance smuggling, the industry needs transparency. The crew deserve it.

Why are these 'abandoned' vessels not awarded to them (or the #ITF) to auction off?

On This Day 8th February 1993.

467, Lockheed C-130H Hercules, Royal Saudi Air Force, parked on the cargo ramp at Manchester Airport, 8th February 1993, on one of my rare visits over to that side of the airport, which was pretty much inaccessible without a car.
Saudi Herc's were a regular sight back then, it wasn't unknown to have 3 or 4 on the ground at once, picking up supplies from one of the British Aerospace factories in the area.

Side view of a high-winged, 4 propellor-engined military cargo plane parked facing to the right.
The plane is covered in a 3-tone sandy brown camouflage scheme, with low-visibility markings in all the usual places in the fuselage, only a green pennant with white text in an Arabic script on the tail providing any contrast.
A black chain-link fence topped with barbed wire stretches across the foreground, with a wide strip of grass behind it leading up to the apron area.
A large terminal building fills most of the background, with a tall, glass-topped control tower in the background.
The tails of several jet airliners can be seen in the distance, under flat grey sky.

Good Morning, Seaspans - Caught some nice light and fog combos this morning post-sunrise, watching some ships along the inlet.

An early morning photograph of some cargo ships along Burrand Inlet in Vancouver, BC. The sun has risen, and is casting some hard white light into the background fog. Said fog is tangling itself into the nearby trees, highlighting the layers.

You can uninstall cargo now*! I created a simpler alternative: codeberg.org/jak2k/fe2o3

* No, you can't. I haven't implemented proper dependency resolution yet. And when I also implement a package manager, it won't support Cargo packages.

Moody Freight - Had a (very) brief window this morning in which it wasn't raining. Took a quick walk to the pier near home, taking in some of the Vancouver texture.

#photography #moody #ships #cargo #clpuds #bluehour
A blue hour photograph of a large cargo ship, in the process of either offloading or onboarding cargo. It is very early morning, and there is an incoming storm evident, with low- and mid-level clouds swirling around the scene. Burnaby Mountain takes up the background, a ring of clouds near the top as well.
