#librewolf

The only thing keeping me from switching to Librewolf or Waterfox is the lack of a companion iOS app. I would like to have my bookmarks and tabs stay in sync between my Mac and iOS devices. Is there a good way to sync at least bookmarks between different browsers? #librewolf #waterfox #browsers #iOS #mac

Más vivaldi, menos pavarotti. He decidido darle una oportunidad a Vivaldi como alternativa a Firefox. Por ahora seguiré usando Librewolf como navegador principal, pero si me gusta Vivaldi, podría reemplazarlo en el futuro.

Adelante estudios.

i did use #librewolf instead of #firefox for some time, but eventually switched back for a few reasons:

  • it took longer for updates to arrive into my distro's repository, even security updates
  • some other apps, like keepassxc, had to be manually configured to interface with librewolf the same way they do with firefox normally
  • i learned that my distro already applies most of the "removed telemetry" changes to regular firefox anyway

I was asked about the @Vivaldi Browser. It is a powerful tool and has some nice features, but I cannot recommend it because it is not fully open source. Following GNU Freedom 1, I believe users must have the right to study and change their software, not just audit some of the files.

With Firefox now introducing a one click AI opt out in version 148, it remains the superior recommendation for people who value privacy and code transparency over proprietary UI features. Don't get me wrong, I am completely #NoAI but knowing a browser has a toggle I can verify is better than trusting a corporation’s word.

Vivaldi claims only 5% is proprietary, yet they keep it closed to prevent forks. They benefit from the open-source community while intentionally blocking others from doing the same. That is hypocritical.

For most people, @librewolf and @zenbrowser remain my top recommendations.

I switched to #Librewolf as my browser recently. Mostly it's been OK, but occasionally I notice 'blanked' images. Today I tried to upload some screenshots to bluesky and they kept being replaced with 'blank' images, even when I then view them from another browser / device. Turns out that if you don't grant (forbidden by default for privacy) canvas permissions, bsky image upload is broken. I don't even want to think about why this is the case, but it's really crappy. Apparently the canvas permissions are disabled by default as they give sites access to a strongly identifiable fingerprint, another way to track users across the web.

There are other sites where this permission is even needed for the favicon to display correctly (i.e discord).

Screen capture of bsky.app website. Two posts, one with black and white game screenshots, the other with 'missing images', where the screenshots were replaced with blocks of single colour

@siklist @kkarhan @mozilla_support FWIW, and both use Mozilla sync servers, so you can continue to use that service (if you use it) with the same privacy guarantees Sync has.

@samuel that's good. But I have begun running #librewolf just to be sure. They remove the crap at compile time.

@rysiek
Michal, are there Firefox extensions that are compatible with LibreWolf?
For example, I use the tab management app OneTab, and would like to be able to continue using it -- or an alternative -- should I switch to LibreWolf.
I hope you'll be able to tell me that most addons created for Firefox also work in Librewolf, and I'll be off to the races.

Interesting....

#mozilla announced that you can soon turn off #ai in #firefox.

blog.mozilla.org/en/firefox/ai

But you know Mozilla is an advertising company right? There's gonna be a catch.

connect.mozilla.org/t5/discuss

You can use Firefox without all the AI bullshit, annoying "we care about you" popups and other cruft by using a fork like #librewolf.

Hey there Stef! Great to discover that this feature (that is highly requested in my community) is at least being shipped.

My main frustration is with this “scare screen” that appear when we try to activate the kill switch. It really looks like the kind of tricks that the Big Tech companies pulls on us in their products, trying to make us think twice about doing something.

The setting is already buried in a specific tab in the settings page (something that | can understand), so, please, don't paternize me with a confirmation popup when | want to “block” those features. It not a destructive action and it's a dark pattern to do so. Thanks.

@c64whiz More distros should be shipping #LibreWolf by default, but high-level changes like these are notoriously difficult to push through because it relies upon leadership being aware / onboard and such changes are often gated by the BDFL's ego

Current browser setup consists of: #waterfox as my daily driver. I also have #librewolf installed in case I need access to more "modern" browser features that are not available in the ESR version of #firefox. And lastly, I also have #vivaldi in my back pocket in case I need to test something on a #chromium based browser.

Ah, and if you reload the page, you'll leave a zombie old-you in the meeting 😂

And the typical canvas-not-working :librewolf: #LibreWolf dance, even when allowing it (which you only can after the document.createElement("canvas").toDataURL(); console pasting), camera effects still don't work and just show garbage.

Mostly done with moving from Firefox to @librewolf as my daily driver.

Screw Mozilla's "AI" bullshit.

Apparently does not like or at least does not like

Groupme no longer allows me to log in from librewolf. All I get is a spinning dialog. This used to work.

Still works in . Makes me wonder what personal data firefox is feeding

LibreWolf might be close enough:

https://librewolf.net/

1) Presently, the plan is to continue to bundle uBlock Origin as a pre-installed extension.

2) Presently, the plan is to scrub all present and future AI from the browser.

3) LibreWolf disables upstream telemetry and some website tracking elements.

4) LibreWolf also disables some types of browser fingerprint methods.

5) Digital Rights Management (DRM) is disabled by default to prevent the execution of proprietary binary blobs.

6) A small number of websites, primarily video sites, won't load in #LibreWolf, but this seems like a small tradeoff for the benefits of the #browser.

:boost_requested: Does anyone know of an extension to make it so #Firefox (well #LibreWolf) can actually get past #cloudflare bot walls?

I usually just click away and don't visit, but have to switch to Chrome if it's important (say a doctor) because #Firefox always gets the infinite loop.

I would use #patreon so much more if I could login without my least favorite browser tracking me enough to prove I'm human. [the fuck]

Fuck #cloudflare so much. Even when I turn off my VPN it doesn't work.

What about Librewolf version 147.0.2-1 aarch64 edition ?
The website returns "404 - not found"

gitlab.com/api/v4/projects/243

Was the image not created ?

EDIT: Found the new "version" ( a directory with all the required stuff inside) on codeberg.
However: All my bookmarks and my settings (communication via tor) are, of course, gone.😩
