Just finished "The Regicide Report" by @cstross

Blimey. More twists and turns than the original adventure game maze of twisty passages

Bravo, Charlie. What a way to bow out a host of characters. Although, of course, Bob's final words could hold true!

(Yep, I’m rereading the #LaundryFiles by @cstross as a refresher for #TheRegicideReport)

I just gulped down #TheRegicideReport in 24 hours! It was very epic and satisfyingly ties a lot of plotlines and characters from the previous #LaundryFiles books together.

However, it has left me a bit melancholy. I guess I was hoping that @cstross would have some fresh ideas on how to definitively deal with monsters who have taken over your government and are indiscriminately killing people to further their own selfish goals. You know, topical advice.

It has landed! a happy/sad day here. @cstross thank you for your stellar writing over the years 🙂 #charlesstross #laundryfiles

In prep for the end of the series and finding out how Bob and Mo end up, I've revisited the first book (The Atrocity Archive), and am the part where Bob has just met Mo for the first time.

With the final instalment of Charlie Stross’s #laundryFiles due out at the end of the month, now seems as good a time as any for a re-read of the series.

Hello Bob, hello Mo. Hello Mhari, Alex and Cassie, Angleton and Armstrong, Iris and Seph, Pinkie and Brains.

It’s been a while…feels good 😎

I finished the fifth Laundry Files book, found out the sixth one doesn't have Bob as the narrator, and became actually, genuinely upset, as though I lost a friend or something

Which I suppose speaks to the writing

Like he's a bit of a dick (quite a big dick actually at the start) but he grows

Anyway the new narrator for book 6 is his wife so it'll be interesting to see their marriage from her POV

Bob has always said he's an unreliable narrator too, so that'll be fun to witness

@purplelotus13 @arendleejessurun "Little Brother" by Cory Doctorow @pluralistic is a free #book downloadable from Cory's website.

I have the sequel "Homeland" on my TBR pile too. Scarily prophetic for what is happening in USA right now. Maybe not great for hopeful escapism altho I expect a survivable ending cos the next in the series "Attack Surface" has some of the samecharacters.

For weirder escapism I'm also reading Merchant Traders series by Charles Stross @cstross
goodreads.com/series/40515-the

They're portal fiction unlike the James Bond on a budget meets Lovecraft + Brit bureacracy of the #LaundryFiles. The latest ones in the New Management phase may appeal
goodreads.com/series/335314-th

Or the lighter UK X files but police and magic and nicer #RiversOfLondon series by Ben Aaronovitch in #books and comics
goodreads.com/series/51937-riv

I also read cosy mysteries like Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series.
goodreads.com/series/299267-th

And for total escapism, Georgette Heyers' historical romances. Try The Grand Sophy

Another strong entry in the recent #LaundryFiles novels, with a really interesting trip into the Regency period of England.

I learn more vocabulary and weird facts from @cstross 's books than anywhere else. As I find myself on a bender of the later #LaundryFiles series, I need to either read in ebook format for the built in dictionary or have my phone or a physical dictionary near me.

Today's gem was learning about The Bluestocking Society, a women's rights and intellectual movement from the 18th century.

The new characters started out slow for me in Dead Lies Dreaming, but it's been picking up speed ever since I started that one. Here we are on the third novel with Wendy, Eve, Imp, and the crew.

40 pages in and I already know this one's going to be a banger!

The 'book is dead. Long live the 'book!

#kobo #LaundryFiles

Two kobo devices on top of eachother on a fluffy bed cover. Underneath there's an Elipsa with a broken screen, and on top of it there's a new Clara Coulour. The Clara is much smaller, covering a little less than a third of the Elipsa.

They're both turned off, showing the same book cover for Charlie Stross' "The Fuller Memorandum".

@Turr1caN Here's the blurb: "The "Laundry" is Britain's super-secret agency devoted to protecting the realm from the supernatural horrors that menace it. Now Bob Howard, Laundry agent, must travel to the quiet English countryside to deal with an outbreak of one of the worst horrors imaginable. For, as it turns out, unicorns are real. They're also ravenous killers from beyond spacetime..." #LaundryFiles

@Turr1caN Wow, that looks cool. I might watch that. Made me think of Charles Stross' Equoid novella which is really really good. torpublishinggroup.com/equoid- #LaundryFiles
