It is starting to dawn upon many that the patronizing "#AgeVerification" they wanted to impose exclusively on young people is now quickly turning into a "No internet without #ID", for everybody, step by step.
The next "surprise" for the short-sighted will be that there is no such thing as a "free certificate", or any "free" trust service. Today, you're cheer-leading for "digitization", and shrugging at the "#DigitalZwang" (German for: forced goodbye to the analog world) imposed on everybody? That will soon become a very embarrassing memory.
There is a whole industry lobbying for, and participating in the "standardization" of trust services; and regulatory frameworks outlining the extensive procedural and institutional precautions that cost a lot to implement.
If your company makes it onto a "trusted list of qualified trust service providers", you've basically got a cash printing machine.
In case you're a web developer: this will be the equivalent of "HTTPS required everywhere", but "unfortunately" without anything like #LetsEncrypt in sight, anywhere. Because, you know, "the market regulates itself."
