Have you heard of OpenStreetMap?

“In a map, you can see not only roads and labels, but also culture, language, habits, history and weather reflected.

A yellow card showing a screenshot of the map app. It also shows a text saying "What does a map mean to you?"A yellow card featuring this quote from the interviewee explaining the project: "That's what mapping is about: not just documenting things you see, but also learning what's in an alley you always walk past, or which kinds of trees grow in your area. It makes you more mindful, makes you notice where you are, what is around, and what other people are doing."

#TIL about #CommonsDB;

"... a public registry for Public Domain and openly licensed works, to bring greater legal certainty to the reuse of digital content.

The registry uses content-derived, decentralized identifiers to ensure persistent recognition of digital content and rights information across formats, thereby providing greater legal certainty for reusing digital content."

Archive Zenodo : zenodo.org/communities/oegf

The framing that “criticism of generative AI equates to technophobia” is a massive false dichotomy. People who say that are manipulative liars.

❓ Mit welchen Werkzeugen und Technologien wird gearbeitet? Was befördern, was unterbinden sie?

What does your ideal "Human-Centric" tech future look like?

Are we heading toward a world of "Calm Technology" that stays out of our way, or are you worried the "Subscription-for-everything" model is too entrenched to break?

I’d love to hear from the builders and dreamers here.

Streaming now: the #Nextcloud Hub release! See also blog & press coverage that's going live.

My take: this release is a big step for #DigitalSovereignty. Designed to be THE open source platform for #autonomous digital work places. A true #DigitalCommons, open for anyone to built upon - and the result of a large community effort itself.

And, practically, a ton of improvements and features!

Now I'd like to hear what *you* think!

This would have affiliated it with France, the country that made its very existence possible and has today still its largest user base, offering visibility into the decade-long investment that went into that piece of software. As someone who invested so much of my time and energy into the French digital transformation and the reputation of locally grown #DigitalCommons, I am always sad to see these missed opportunities for #DigitalDiplomacy.

Until November, solutions were only listed through aggregation of national portals. In the last quarter, the @European Commission decided to expand sourcing by identifying “standout solutions” that go way beyond national usage. We are proud to be part of the first cohort to be directly listed as a solution for EU-wide (and beyond!) interoperability for , alongside other widely recognised such as @decidim and @consuldemocracy.

This morning I promoted nolto.social, a platform that was made - at least I thought so, to be a Fediverse based alternative to LinkedIn. As I'm getting more and more annoyed by LinkedIn and all the useless posts over there, I was happy to find an independent alternative.

nolto.social still worked this morning, but when I came back later; i found the project deleted and at least when you are viewing the website from your smartphone, you see a message from the developer of nolto.social where he states that this project was never meant to grow. Obviously this was just a one person project who became overwhelmed by the success of the platform and by the fact, that companies started creating profiles and nearly 1000 people joined within a short time period. But now it seems that this project ran out of control and the maintainer decided to pull the emergency break. He is also talking about negative feedback he received for the platform and even personal harrassment.

It is sad that a promising project like this had been terminated, but I can understand what made the maintainer doing so. Managing a business platform can become a fulltime job quite fast and it also requires technical ressources and money to run these resources.

I firmly believe that we need an alternative to LinkedIn. I believe that people don't want all this bullshit posts just created to please the algorithm and to generate likes and feedback. And I believe that people would like a business network which is nothing else than a business network - no space for bursting egos and self promotion, but a space for connection and serious discussion.

Fediverse would be the ideal space for this. But as we know, if business networks are successful, they require more and more attention, more ressources, more money. And at this is the problem. When you need money to run your social network, it's tempting to ask yourself how you could generate money by using the ressources you already have, which are user data...

I don't see a solution for this now, just sharing some thoughts.

Europe’s digital sovereignty debate is maturing.

The EuroStack initiative and the new Digital Commons EDIC show a shift from regulation-first thinking towards capacity-building: infrastructure, markets, and coordination.

But sovereignty only works if institutions enable private innovation — without crowding it out.

@Wtebbens The 'Software Sovereignty Scale' is a vital lens. If sovereignty is a spectrum, then corporate 'Open Source' (OSI) is often just a lease, not ownership. We need to move from 'Sovereign Consumption' to 'Sovereign Governance'—where the end-user holds a stake in the infrastructure itself. How do we build 'CoopCloud' protocols that are as metabolically resilient as they are legally open?

In the discussion about #digitalsovereignty there is an interesting cry for #BuyEuropean, but many of us doubt that that is enough. In software, you (or your organisation or country) being "sovereign" or in control does ultimately not only - or so much - depend on where the HQ of the tech company are located.

@dries, the founder of Drupal, presents an interesting scale for digital sovereignty.

The software license is an important part. Not the only one of course. We'd also think of the maturity of the developer community. And, as an enduser, one's control over or stake in the service provider (in case you need one).

Automation is currently the engine of the Great Value Theft. Whether in factories or through AI, it’s being used to ghost labor and privatize the collective intellect. We don't just need 'Open Source'; we need Active Reclamation. It’s time to enforce the return of value to the commons. How do we build the counters?

2026-02-11

2026: The expiration of EU’s NGI program is a critical threat to our digital commons. Free software like Mastodon and Nextcloud aren't just tools—they're the infrastructure of our collective autonomy. We must transition from state-dependent grants to resilient, community-owned funding models. The future of the Social Web is a public good.

The German federal government currently pays €481 million in licensing fees to #Microsoft every year.

I'm sure @zendis could build some nice stuff with half the money and make it available for everybody else to re-use.
