Ok, thanks to @borgmatic I have a backup that is running and sending data to a repurposed backup drive that used to be formatted to my old backup scheme and is now fully assimilated to the borg.

I'm gonna run it for a few weeks, then convert my other hard drive that I swap between... and once those have run for a month or two I'll swap one of them to my offsite location and convert my current offsite drive. Slow, steady, and with a fallback at all times!

#borgmatic friends. I have several backup drives that I rotate through. If I list each of their mount points in the borgmatic config, and the drive isn't mounted so the path doesn't exist, will borgmatic error out, or continue with the additionally listed destinations?

ideally It'd just update whatever drives I have mounted, and skip over whatever ones I don't.

I don't really know how Pika Backup interacts with the borg integrity check thing and BorgBase has been giving me warnings about lack of post-quantum key exchange for a while. This is fine when doing backups but integrity checks say that it failed. I found the Pika Backup log file in "~/.var/app/org.gnome.World.PikaBackup/config/pika-backup/history.json" and the only stuff is the warnings just like the UI popup (search for "check"). Is it just a confusing UI thing?

@dlakelan Good move. For decades my backups were removed RAID devices. I use plain #borg now, and it is much better for having proper history management and the ability to just mount an archive for its perusal.

Another great stat for #Alcaraz:

Estoy animándome a probar #Vorta, un cliente para el sistema de respaldos #Borg, al parecer es más eficiente y con mejores opciones de cifrado que #BackInTime, sistema que llevo usando desde 2011 (sin problemas, la verdad).

Aunque me da miedo romper la regla de "si funciona, no le muevas", también soy seguidor de la máxima: "quien tenga miedo a vivir, que no nazca".

Correction:

- using two `mv` saves time because copying is not needed;
- using two `mv` avoids risking `ENOSPC` during the sync;
- using two `mv` does *not* help with the backup part.

Toying with #borg a little more, even after a clean `mv` of the parent directory, it goes through all files again, and I'm looking at 14+ minutes again.

All that with NVMe on the left, SSD on the right, and a somewhat limited machine on the right side (running borg): 2 cores (Pentium G3240 @ 3.10GHz).

And of course, because of the copy aspect, #borg create (with --progress and --stats for good measure) actually needs to chug through all those (big) files to see which chunks are new etc. so that's also taking a long while.

Enough to let me learn how to parse this:
