Anybody know a trusted script¹ or extention² to automatically replace "smart" (aka "curly") quotation marks and apostrophes with straight ones?

Double quotation marks -- replacing “ and ” with ".
Single quotation marks -- replacing ‘ and ’ with '.
Apostrophe - replacing ’ with '.

Genuinely asking, but no reply guys please 🫶

Edit: Apologies for any confusion caused. We're looking only for something basic and trusted that can replace certain characters or text strings with another. So long as we can easily configure it to replace the above, it doesn't matter if it's a more-general script or extension for replacing text.

Edit 2: We found an extention that could automagically do it for us. It's called FoxReplace. Took us a few moments to work out how it worked, but we ended up creating a rule for text only (ignoring URLs) to apply the desired substitutions automatically to the text output on any rendered web page on a page load/reload.

Acabo de descubrir el "modo Hemingway", en las preferencias de Apostrophe (un editor de markdown, dentro de las aplicaciones de gnome).
Me ha parecido muy curioso.
Voy a probarlo en alguna sesión de escritura para ver qué tal. Este modo te inhabilita el borrado o volver atrás en el texto, emulando lo que sería un proceso de escritura en máquina de escribir.
El diseño y funcionalidad de este editor es una delicia.

Sous Xorg, j'avais un script qui se lançait au démarrage, mais sous #Wayland (+ adapté à ma config), ça ne marche plus.

Sometimes I think I care about apostrophes too much.

I've just edited a comment I made because I'd missed an apostrophe from a plural possessive.

And I just had to stop myself commenting on someone else's post because they'd put an apostrophe where none belonged.

Oh well.

the apostrophe app has a cute little bar that appears when you save. in june, it was colored following the colors of the pride flag. but now, it's colored following the colors of the disability pride flag! that's awesome! :neofox_flag_disabled:

I don't think any punctuation marks need protecting, by the way. The Apostrophe Protection Society, for example, is a dogmatic organisation with an appetite for shaming people and no apparent understanding of the apostrophe's diverse history and continuing mutability.

Punctuation patterns ebb and flow and change with the times. If people see the need for a particular mark, they'll keep using it.

Des 3 applications modernes installées, je n'en ai gardé qu'une seule :

• #EarTag, parce qu'elle est élégante oui mais fort utile et n'a plus d'équivalent dans les repo

Sinon :

• #Music a viré, je garde #Rhythmbox C'est old school mais au moins il occupe pas 1 Go de ram à chaque fois qu'il se lance
• Exit aussi #Apostrophe qui ne fait pas grand chose de plus que ce qu'on peut faire avec #Gedit
