Ice Fields Parkway - Anyone recognize this famous peak?

Taken on my own road trip through the area back in 2023 it was hard not to stop and take a shot with this kind of light.

A snow mountain peak from within the icefields parkway. Trees line the sides of a deep snow covered banks. The sky is filled with layers of cloud. A small bit of warmth from the start of sunset glows on the right side of the screen.

I’ve started a photo project for 2026! Inspired by the numerous sets of #RiverValley stairs in the City of #Edmonton, I'll be photographing some of them, sharing their story as I’ve experienced them, in the nearly 25 years I’ve lived here.

First up:

Stairs That Tell A Story: Default Stairs πŸ‘‡πŸ»

A set of wooden stairs leads down to a walking path along the river running through the background of the image. It is winter, and snow covers most of the ground, the cliffs, and the ice on the water. The sunset reflects soft pastels on the open river water. The Edmonton skyline can just be seen in the very back of the image.

Happy #SquirrelAppreciationDay to all who celebrate!

(Fun fact, it's also #InternationalSweatpantsDay, though I have yet to see a squirrel in sweat pants)

Photo of an American Red Squirrel perched on a thin tree branch. One paw is tucked close to his chest, and the other that's being used to steady himself on the branch seems to be missing a thumb? He doesn't seem to be too bothered by that.Photo of a Columbian Ground Squirrel popped up on hind legs in some tall grass.Photo of an Eastern Gray Squirrel clinging to the side of the trunk of a tree, looking at the camera. Silhouetted conifers run along the bottom of the photo, against a backdrop of a vibrant sunset sky moving from pink to orange as it gets closer to the horizon.

I don't need it to be #NationalBirdDay to post photos of #Birds, but I will definitely honour the occasion! Below are a few of my favourite types of birds.

Photo of the Northern Lights over Astotin Lake in Elk Island National Park. There are a cluster of silhouetted trees on the left side--an island in the middle of the lake. Above the horizon on the right side of the image, a thick ribbon of green stretches across a deep navy sky. Some stars are visible in the image.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 19 - I'm just here to let you know there's such a thing as white sunflowers.

Definitely a different vibe than the traditional yellow, but I love it all the same 😍

Close-up photo of a sunflower, lit softly from behind. The petals are a creamy white, rather than the typical golden yellow. It is striking and gentle all at the same time.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 18 - The politics currently going on inside this building are deplorable, but thankfully that doesn't make the architecture any less photogenic.

#MeanwhileInAlberta #abLeg #AlbertaLegislature #ArchitecturePhotography #CanadianPhotographer #NightPhotography #LongExposure

The Alberta Legislature building photographed from the front at evening twilight. It was built in the Beaux-Arts style of the early 20th century, with a central dome, with wings extending off either side (a third wing extends out the back, not seen in this photo). In front of the building are plaza/courtyard-esque type grounds, flanked on either side with mature trees. It is the holiday season, so the trees are strung with coloured lights, the. trunks wrapped in white lights, the front of the building is lit in columns of green and red between its pillars, and there is a Christmas tree in the middle of the grounds as well.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 17 - There is just something about small animals snacking that is SO. DARN. CUTE!
