Fighting at an SCA practice - two rapier fencers. On the left is a friend dressed in normal rapier kit - black with a white hood, fighting rapier and dagger. I’m on the right wearing heavy armour and a fencing mask. I’m fighting with a rapier and a heavy shield. The shield is painted red and blue with a fox over flames. I am ludicrously proud of it. That’s not obvious in the photo, it’s bonus useless information.

🇬🇧 Like last year, this year I again counted all exchanges - both in tournaments as well as in sparrings. In total, I counted 12592, from which 10510 were in sparrings, 2082 in tournaments.
* 9081 were with longsword, from which 7720 in sparrings, 1361 in tournaments.
* 2407 were with sabre, from which 1977 in sparrings, 430 in tournaments.
* 396 were with smallsword, which were only in sparrings.
* 262 were with rapier and dagger, from which 84 in sparrings, 178 in tournaments.
* 237 were with sword and buckler, from which 124 in sparrings, 113 in tournaments.
* 166 were with rapier, which were only in sparrings.
* 43 were with spear, which also were only in sparrings.

I had a bad fencing weekend in London. I competed in the London HEMA Open tournament in three categories (in this order): saber, rapier and dagger, and longsword.

In saber I won two and lost two fights in the pool, ending up 30th before elimination, where I lost (deservedly) in the first round.

In rapier and dagger I fought a bit better - I won three times, and lost two times, ending up 22nd. However, because it was (too?) late, the organisers decided to let only 16 fighters (out of 58) into the elimination. Hm 😕

In longword I was just simply stupid. In the pool I won all bouts, but, like last year, I lost in the first round of elimination 🤦‍♂️ Why...
