Proxima B: Habitable Paradise Or Infernal World In Alpha Centauri?

Our nearest neighbor is a world of extremes. Proxima B sits in the "Goldilocks Zone," but it is tidally locked and blasted by flares from its red dwarf star. Is it a lush paradise hidden in the twilight zone, or a radiation-baked rock? We analyze the latest atmospheric data from our first target for interstellar colonization.

Oosalon

Oosalon was a barren, rocky mountainous planet located in the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories. The planet had an atmosphere breathable to oxygen-breathers, such as humans. The planet was inhabited by a non-sentient creature named the tibidee.

🪐✨ #Venus might look like a peaceful morning star, but it is actually the most hostile #environment in our neighborhood.

New #research highlights how a runaway greenhouse effect and clouds of sulfuric acid turned this "#Earth twin" into a planet where the pressure is like being a kilometer under the #ocean. Its beautiful glow is actually caused by its extreme reflectivity, as those thick clouds bounce 70% of sunlight back into #space.

[Tidal #waves in #stars and #planets] Tidal interactions are a key factor in the orbital and rotational evolution of nearby stellar and (exo-)planetary systems. They are the focus of research by Aurélie Astoul, a researcher at IRAP.

This Thursday, Aurélie will present how tidal waves can trigger and interact with differential rotation, and can even modify the amplitude and topology of magnetic fields, sometimes through fluid or magnetic instabilities: irap.omp.eu/event/modelling-ti
