#Perl

As much as I like the #Perl built-in try/catch syntax, I do not like the following:

my $result;
try {
$result = ...
}

Putting it in a do expression just seems messy

my $result = do {
try {
...
}
}

I don't seem to get any response from MITRE Corporation requesting CVE IDs. Multiple requests have been silently ignored. What can I do ... except becoming my own CNA?

@faxmodem made my week with goodies from #fosdem2026

#rakulang tee-shirt and #perl sticker

Said he spent a nice time chatting with people he met there. Wish I'll make it next time!

Thanks! 😀

Why don't you hear about Perl in the headlines? Because it works. And keeps working. Sometimes the best technology is the most boring.

"One of the reasons that you don’t hear about Perl in the headlines is its reliability."

That's a great testimony.

Also, :)

A large poster, titled "Periodic Table of the Operators" in a sort of 18th scientific illustration style.

There is a ton of text on the poster, far too much to transcribe here. See the post's weblink for more info and transcription of some of it.

And we, in the early days of the Internet and World Wide Web, were Punk:

Passionately writing software and then giving it away for free. Self expression through code. Hacking at systems to free it from its tightly held constraints.

Renegades and outlaws... coding #Forth even when the establishment said it encourages bad habits. Poetry expressed via #perl. Doing things with #awk that the left the original authors in shock and awe ("..we never intended *that*"). Embedding adhoc DSLs and #lisp interpreters inside of applications to extend capabilities....

"The street finds its own uses for things..." .

Indeed.

Just to get this straight: #debian rootfs is built from a toolchain that is written in ancient #perl that one guy maintains who is not even able to make his private #git #forge to return the release artifacts (its 500 baby)? ... you had me at #supplychainattack !

I’ve implemented and published a small (~100 lines) and trustworthy (#OpenSource, fully auditable) random strings (password) generator. One #PERL module with both command-line and web interface. Try, use, and download here:
