The interesting part in this is… I have twice as many subscribers on Makertube. Yet I some videos have drastically more views on YouTube. Likely because it is gear head musician's content? Well, not always. It's also the algorithm. My first video on YouTube in this channel has almost 2000 views, like YT tried to encourage me… and then it likely didn't feed my following videos to people any more.

Every time people try to trick the algorithms in order to gain more views, they are likely fooling themselves.

(Social Media algorithms… A bit like parents with always inconsistent/erratic feedback/behavior will trouble the life of children needing that feedback to survive…)

I can't say anything about comments, because I disabled those on YT for the sake of my mental health. The comments coming in to my Peertube via the Fedi are mostly very nice.

Facebook, YouTube und all die anderen kommerziellen „sozialen Medien“ werden immer schlechter. Aber das muss einen nicht jucken, denn inzwischen haben sich die dezentralen Alternativen ganz gut gemacht und es ist kein „du musst Admin sein um das hier zu verstehen“ mehr.

Sollte jetzt hier (oder im Fediverse) einer der alten Recken aus YouKraut Zeiten mitlesen, dann lade ich euch ein. Kommt rüber zu https://makertube.net/ als Alternative zu YouTube oder als zweites Standbein.

Anders als viele andere PeerTube Instanzen, die ich bisher besucht habe, gibt es bei MakerTube (derzeit) kein Limit, wie viel ihr speichern könnt. Ja, ein Tageslimit von 20GB gibt es aber wer lädt am Tag 20GB an Videos hoch?

YouKraut ist tot, lang lebe PeerKraut. Ok, klingt so knackig wie ich dachte aber ihr versteht was ich meine.

Sehen wir uns auf der anderen Seite?

PS: solltet ihr, die ihr dies lest, nicht selber ein deutschsprachiger Inhaltsersteller im Bereich Tabletop sein aber welche kennen, so verweist sie gerne an mich. Ich werde versuchen so vielen wie möglich beim Umzug zu helfen 🙂

Today I made a MakerTube account and uploaded one video to try it out. I 've only used YouTube for my videos before, so I'd appreciate any advice about settings, description content, etc., before I add anything more.

Does anyone know if there's a way to embed videos from my #Makertube (#peertube instance) library into my #MediaWiki based wiki? There's the extension EmbedVideo but that one only works with the 24 pre-registered video platforms like Youtube. Unless I misunderstand something.

Some technical updates regarding #MakerTube. I started building up a storage cluster to gain some operational experience with it. We will soon hit some plan limit on Hetzner for the backup (20TB) and the decision was either to use the managed object store (expensive) or do it on my own (more work). I will only use it for backups and block storage for now and see how it turns out. But in the long run I guess there is no way around it to keep costs in check. Let's see! #peertube #ceph

I've recently been trying to remote follow some accounts from my own peertube instance from https://makertube.net and https://spectra.video and at first it seems as though it's successful, but shortly after the subscription disappears.

Is anyone else having this issue?
