Every third weekend of October Scouts around the world participate in Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) where Scouts can connect with each other over radio and learn about radio communications and technology.
That weekend Troop 119 was camping in Bolton, MA. I set up a radio station and got some Scouts on the air.

I tried doing hf again - still not really managed to make it do anything.. probably rubbish location/antenna etc.. I think I managed to hear a #jota contact but still get frustrated.. VHF/UHF and repeaters simple..
Vandaag tijdens de #JOTA hebben vijf scoutinggroepen, deels met zelfgemaakte antennes, radiocontact gemaakt met Dwingeloo, *via de maan*.
Onder begeleiding van zendamateurs zonden zij een kort bericht naar de maan, wij ontvingen met de Dwingeloo telescoop de echo (wat zij zelf via onze WebSDR konden zien). Vijf maal succes, en erg blije scouts!
De scouts kwamen uit Aalst-Waalre (PA80SAW/J), Meerhoven (PA3WWE/J), Heerlen (PD1JHG/J), Waalre (PE2HRM/J) en Uitgeest (PB0MV/J).
Station is set up for Scout's Jamboree on the Air in Groton, MA. Looking forward to getting some Scouts on the radio today.

This year we made arrangements with the PAPA System to use their repeaters. Listen and call us on the PAPA repeaters. Our callsign will be K6V. Troop 307, 108, and 15 will be camping at the Campo Alto Campgrounds in the Los Padres National Forest and can reach the PAPA repeaters with no problems. Otherwise we’ll connect on HF.
