An old gray inland vessel serves as a clubhouse for the sea scouts. It was laid on dry land and half dug in. Inviting flags fly above the deck. A sloop is positioned on the right. The gray day gives something depressing to the picture.

This week end is the first of the three pre-jamboree #scouts camps for this year. Unfortunately due to the bad weather forecast the first night (tonight until Sat) has already been called off :-(

Let's hope it lightens up for tomorrow.

The plan is to build and use rafts made from poles/bamboo, ropes and barrels only (in preparation for next week's founders day event), as well as camping skills.

Our District Contingent to the Blair Atholl International Jamborette did their Training Camp in our Scout Hut last weekend.

They used one of our Icelandic Tents and left it out inside to dry. So, tonight I assisted one of our Scout Leaders to put it & a tarp away.

Eagle Scout here. If Boy Scouts agrees to this bullshit coming from Taliban Pete then I will renounce my Eagle Scout rank and make it a mission to make sure that scout troops lose access to public building in my area because it is contrary to the values of OUR community.

Bij #scouting gebruikte ik altijd een stalen haring om een oogsplits te prutsen....

Als je de enige aanwezige bent die weet hoe die een oogsplits moet maken, sta je voor je het weet in 40 touwen oogsplitsen te frummelen. Gelukkig heb ik er het gereedschap voor!

Onze Romeinengroep heeft weer nieuwe scheerlijnen aan de tenten!

Canvas tent ligt op een werkbank. Een vezeltouw is door een oog in het doek gehaald en met een paars tapeje tijdelijk vast gezet. Een stuk gereedschap (marlspijker, noorse splitshoorn, geef het ding een naam) ligt klaar voor gebruik.

De oogsplits is klaar, de uiteinden van het touw zitten nu teruggevlochten in het touw, en er is een oog, een lus ontstaan, die stevig aan tent vast zit.

I had no idea this was the name of the classic tray item identification game until I became a Cub Scout Leader.

Not that we’ve ever played it at Cubs, I just found it out when I was learning about Scouting and Programme Planning. Must get around to trying it one day.

Visiting my local Scout store.

The building on the left (across the street) is the Whipple Federal Building. It’s the usual destination for people detained by ICE/CBP in Minnesota. This is the back of the building.

GOOD NEWS FOR LOCAL SCOUTS AND LEADERS: it’s safe to visit BaseCamp, the store, and offices. A store employee tells me that the protests focus on the front. No reports of violence or tear gas back here.

Got a hardly used second-hand Berghaus 3-Season sleeping bag for a tenner. Great condition.

Not going to pass up an opportunity, I nearly bought one of these New in Tiso sale the other week!

Needed a better, and warmer, sleeping bag now that I’m camping semi-regularly.

I’ll upgrade again (e.g. lighter, non-synthetic) if I’m more regular & more wide-ranging in the nature of the Camp I go on. 🏕️

Will probably depend on whether the Scout Leaders invite me to some of their Camps.
