Back then:
“HTML & CSS? Unsexy, oldschool!!”
throws WordPress/Drupal/Typo3 at a 5-page website

Same people today:
“Headless Markdown, JAMstack, content-first.”

Guess why.
LLMs can only output static content.

Experimenting with something exciting for @silex

I started playing with @TauriApps for the feature request "Silex Desktop" - offline mode / no GitLab needed (roadmap.silex.me/posts/3/silex)

But then I'm thinking what if I just rewrote the backend in #Rust anyway? I'd love to learn rust and I'd love to ditch #nodejs and #electron

I don't forget that I love @11ty and Silex is in fact a #JAMStack/#11ty visual editor.. Which is JS everywhere... So...

@eleventy @ceubri @contrapunctus

I don't want to be begging and I feel like it's normal for users to contribute - everything so far is free: from hosting with custom domain, CMS integration, git versioning and collaboration...

So the users will soon see a new "create a new site from a template" button and this warning when they click on it

A message for users wanting to use a template:

eleventy-plugin-concat v1.4.0 is out
Group scripts or stylesheets after your static build

Originally an 11ty@neighborhood.11ty.dev plugin, now also a standalone CLI tool for any static site pipeline

Inspired by cloudcannon@techhub.social with Pagefind and Pagebreak - more composable, pipeline-friendly static tools \o/

Built as part of my contributions to @silex for GitLab build pipelines

Silex v3.6.0-canary.1 is available

A big step toward easier CMS-driven websites \o/

The first integrations are: #Strapi, #Supabase, @WordPress, #GitLab, any #GraphQL API

Silex is free and open source software so it is important you help testing it. Especially if you build websites for clients!

Try it here: canary.silex.me
Feedback here: @silex@fosstodon.org or @Silex@lemmy.ml

I finally managed to publish the very first version of the website dedicated to the SarWater ESA research project. Nothing special, but for the use of a #jamstack architecture based on #haunt and GNU #guile Scheme. I think one of the very few examples of such a thing in the EO scientific domain. A very personal choice in order to experiment with geospatial-enabled web content in the next iterations.

FOSS Advent Calendar - Door 18: Build at the Speed of Thought with Hugo

Tired of slow, bloated websites? Meet Hugo, the world's fastest static site generator. Written in Go, Hugo transforms your Markdown content and templates into a complete, optimized website in milliseconds. Whether you're building a blog, portfolio, documentation, or a company site, Hugo gives you simplicity, speed, and security by default.

Unlike database-driven CMS, Hugo generates pure HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This means your site loads instantly, is immune to common security vulnerabilities, and can be hosted anywhere for free, GitHub Pages, Netlify, or a simple web server. Its powerful theming system and shortcodes let you create complex layouts without touching JavaScript frameworks, while live-reload development makes writing a joy.

Pro tip: Use Hugo with Netlify CMS for a static site with a dynamic editing experience. You get a Git-based workflow with a friendly admin UI for your content team. With Hugo, you're not just building websites; you're crafting lightning-fast experiences.

What would you build at web speed? A personal blog that loads in a blink, company documentation that's always online, or a portfolio that shines without JavaScript?

Learning #JAMstack #webdev with #Astro & #Netilify. Pretty cool! Very clean, very intuitive, very fast.

But also learned the hard way that you need to be careful with your git commits! Once you're set up, each commit not only pushes live, but also eats up a dozen Netlify credits, which will push you out of the free tier quick.

Might be time to upgrade already ...

Hi everyone at @nluug ! \o_

I'm preparing a talk called “Less Maintenance, More Freedom, Webdesign at scale w/ Silex and WordPress" (short.silex.me/nDnZaC)

I'd love your input:
- do you prefer live demos of software stack or the business aspects?
- how technical should it be?
- anything important you'd expect from this topic?

Thanks for your feedback!

Reaching 1,500 active users this week on @silex feels really good 🥰

It means a lot to be part of something where we build lighter sites with open tools. Freelance web designers and no-code devs are starting to use Silex for client work, and this makes me proud too 🫣

Many use it as an all-in-one workflow to publish static sites easily, possibly moving into advanced headless setups, with @WordPress, @11ty and GitLab
