#Infrared

Phantom.

It's Friday, and usually I post something from my project, but that's on hold, and instead of having the day as a "post vacation" I thought why not finish this series a bit.
This is the same location as yesterday's post (the pedestrian bridge) but here after the lady and man left the scene. Nothing special about this scene actually but it's the play of light and shadow which I've worked on emphasizing in post-processing.

Departure.

Usually I don't shoot people and honestly I didn't know that this lady was here. The sun at that moment started to rise up and looking at the LCD is getting harder.
As I got onto the pedestrian bridge, I've realized how slow and hard it is to focus with this lens; focusing is somewhat faster when using the viewfinder but not when working with the LCD (a must, since I was shooting in IR). So, I've set the lens on f/11 and set the focusing into manual mode and used the hyperfocal distance principle and just wished the best. I didn't want to use f/11 but this is the least value recorded on the body of the lens (to be used for the hyperfocal distance). I could've calculated the value but it wasn't the right time nor location definitely!
Anyway, I've shot a burst of images here and when reviewed, I've picked this one with the man's body in the background is just going behind the columns to give a sense of leaving the lady. I think this shot could have been better in B&W.

Waiting For Mario (2).

Still with my stroll, and with my Sigma 70-300mm, and with these manhole covers that I've shot last year as well. Previously they were shot with 50mm and a regular camera, this time it's at 70mm and with an infrared filter and a modified camera. I still like the previous one more than this version though.
Interestingly, the tire trace on the asphalt wasn't quite visible (or could be but I couldn't see it clearly because of my eyes condition?) - anyway as I started processing the shot, things got clearer, and so I just boosted the contrast for this specific trace to show up more.

Red Spider Planetary #Nebula from #Webb

The Red Spider Nebula (NGC 6537) is a complex planetary nebula with a hot white dwarf, likely in a binary system. Winds exceed 1,000 km/s, shaping its structure. This false-color #infrared image by James Webb reveals the intricate patterns created by colliding gas waves. It's located in Sagittarius, roughly 4,000 light-years away.

Kahraman Pharmacy.

Having a break a bit from the monkey panorama (I still have few things to post from that panorama), and heading towards a little stroll I did with somewhat unusual "settings".
This stroll took place on January 27th, and I've used a lens that I've neglected for a long time; my Sigma 70-300mm - in addition to that, I've used it with B+W infrared filter (a filter that I didn't use in a long time as well in favor of Neewer IR filters set). Of course using my modified camera for this stroll.
Such a telephoto lens is a challenge and eventually I've been shooting mostly at 70mm, but nevertheless, it was some experience to go through and test few things.
This shot here is somewhat a test shot for a pharmacy on the other side of the road, shot at 135mm, and shot through a wire fence (or whatever it's called) hence the dark spots. Well, hope the owners don't mind me posting about their pharmacy (I'm doing free advertising here folks! 😬)
Anyway, this was the beginning of the stroll. More interesting stuff occurred later!

Earth on fire

The images from Meteosat Third Generation-Sounder (MTG-S) show a full-disc image of Earth as seen from geostationary orbit, about 36 000 km above Earth’s surface. These images were captured on 15 November 2025 by the satellite’s Infrared Sounder instrument.

In the ‘temperature’ image (below), the Infrared Sounder used a long-wave infrared channel, which measured Earth’s surface temperature as well as the temperature at the top of clouds. Dark red corresponds to high temperatures, mainly on the warmer land surfaces, while blue corresponds to lower temperatures, typically on the top of clouds.

Those blue parts look the exact same black as the black parts to the naked eye, by the way.

LDN 1622: Dark #Nebula in Orion

LDN 1622, the Boogeyman Nebula, is a dark nebula silhouetted against glowing hydrogen gas, near brighter vdB 62 and Orion's Barnard's Loop. About 1,500 light-years away, it spans 100 light-years with young stars hidden within. Visible in long-exposure images, its shape inspires its eerie name.
